Shield .40 reassembly problem. Help please?
While reassembling my shield .40 after cleaning I failed to engage my slide lock as I moved the slide rearward so I did not have the opportunity to rotate the take down lever to the correct position but did let the slide move forward. Now I cannot move the slide far enough back to engage the slide stop and the recoil spring assembly rod protrudes from the front of the gun 3/8 inch. Any suggestions on how to get the slide back far enough that I could lower the sear deactivation lever so I can disassemble? Thanks

After ensuring the pistol does not have a round in the chamber...have you tried pulling the trigger to see if it will release the slide forward?
I'm not sure pulling the trigger will work since my recoil rod doesn't protrude that far if I forget to push the deactivation lever down in the mag well.

You don't need to lower the sear deactivation lever to remove the slide, but the problem is with the takedown lever, anyway.
