Performace Center 9L Problems Out of Box

Greetings Experts

New guy here jumping in head first with some questions and issues!!!

I currently have a M&P Performance Center Shield in 9mm and a Performance Center Ported 9L. I just picked up the 9L on Friday and shot it for the first time today. I wish things went better...

The gun constantly was failing to feed rounds of three different ammos. Federal American Eagle, CCI Speer Gold Dot and some cheaper PMC Bronze... I realized that the rounds were getting stuck on the firing pin... Which led me to wonder if the pin should be protruding with the slide back... From what I can tell by researching and looking at my shield it seems that the pin is failing to retract... (Trying to attach to post didn't seem to work so sorry for the links)

So I'll be calling S&W tomorrow... needless to say I'm pretty disappointed... this thing wasn't cheap!!!

While looking the gun over I also noticed that the trigger seems to be "sloppy" compared to my shield... here's a side by side...

I'm wondering if this is correct or should I mention the trigger to S&W tomorrow as well..

Thanks in advance!

Mike

Just a quick comment about the trigger, the pistol really isn't designed to operate without the slide in place, so I wouldn't worry about that too much.

Not sure about the firing pin, I'll have to pull mine out of the safe later to see what it does.

Just curious, and you probably did clean the gun before you shot it. But, just in case you didn't, might want to.

Sounds like the striker block is stuck upward in the bore, allowing the striker (firing pin) to stay forward and protruding. That wouldnt surprise me if it was, as the striker block bore is terrible on most M&P`s... burr`s an such. Might even be a burr in the striker port too.

I wouldn`t worry about the trigger bar... every 9L i`ve seen does exactly that.

Regardless.... send it back to S&W asap. You`ll need to call them first... make THEM pay the shipping out and back. (squeaky wheel gets the grease)

EDIT:
Please dont compare the shield to the 9L, they`re two totally different animals (apples vs oranges)
The 9L was designed to do exactly what your seeing. The trigger loop only catch`s half of the sear... designed that way... ask S&W about that, they`ll tell you the same thing.

Thank you for the replies... I did clean the gun before shooting it... cleaned it while shooting it... AND then cleaned it before shipping it off and the problem continued...

The gun is already at S&W so we'll see what they say... thanks again.

Your very welcome.... please give a shout and let us know how you made out.
Did you get S&W to pay the shipping both ways...??? They owe you that for what you paid.

Failure to Feed, Non-Retracting Firing Pin

Experiencing same issue on M&P 9 Ported w/5in barrel, right out of the box. Contacted S&W today to explain the issue. Interested in what your outcome will be, as I imagine mine is similar.

Here's a question for any of the pistolsmiths or M&P armorers out there. Does the M&P CORE ported in 5" have a plastic sleeve in the cylinder that houses the striker? I know that other 4.25 and 5L have one, but the M&P CORE that I am having issues with does not, and the striker seems like its sitting too far in the cylinder, and thus resting with a protruded striker causing the shell to catch as its feeding and keeping it from going into battery. I've measured both the inner diameter of the cylinder on the slide and they are the same.

This is a $3 part from speed shooters specialties. Wonder if the install was missed at the factory.

Failure to Feed was the result of a missing Striker Spring Guide in the Slide

Took a striker spring guide out of another M&P 9 that I own. Installed it in the 9 CORE and it now cycles w/out issue. The striker requires both forward pressure (provided by the spring guide) and rear pressure (provided by the slide cap assembly) in order to cycle properly.

It's a little late now. I wonder why I didn't see this?

Anyway, as you found out, the ported gun does need that plastic sleeve. How on earth do they miss that in assembly and later in QC?
