Call S&W customer service and they will most likely put one in the mail for you. Yours isn't the first to come apart.

Oh and WELCOME!!

Welcome to M&P forums, from commie NY state, where the politicians are free to tax you to death.

Call S&W, they will likely want you to send the gun back to them.
Prolly not a bad idea, so they can check for any other damage to the gun.
Last thing they want or need is a lawsuit.

Welcome....Smith will either send you a new guide rod or ask you to send it in. It might be a little quicker to get one from someplace like Brownells, Midway USA, Midwest Gun Works, Speed Shooters Specialties, etc.

I ended up calling S&W. They mailed me one immediately. They asked for my name and address, then told me I would receive a new one free of charge in 10 days. So I guess that solves that. Hopefully the new one will fare better than the last one...

A RELATED ISSUE WITH GUIDEROD: I have read on the M&P Shield FB Forum several folks complaining about defective guide rods as early as after 300 rounds (not a typo). Some folks report their problem is resolved by calling S&W customer service; others are buying reinforced replacements from Amazon (don't think that is the best way to go). Anyone here having early bent or crooked guiderod problems shortly after shooting their new Shields?

Zero problems with any of my shields... all have functioned properly without a hic-up in well past 5K rounds

Three shields 2x40 and 1x45 probably at least 1000 through each.
Not a single issue with the guide rod or assembly that some seem to have.

Same here, plus all my other M&P's.

Even my '07 M&P9 is still on it's original guide rod and recoil assembly; and that one was my IDPA gun for many years.
