I was practicing dry fires and decided to try with my middle finger and my index finger along the frame. I can pull the trigger more smoothly with less barrel movement with my middle finger every time. I googled it and there maybe something to it, but was wondering if anyone here has any real world results?

Having my index finger along the length of the gun seems to keep it more steady when pulling the trigger, but i'm afraid the slide is going to get me eventually.

Not sure on that one, on it's face it doesn't sound like a good idea. Leaves only two fingers holding the pistol grip, during firing it would seem less control of flip. On a revolver one would think the hot gas would get you.

no

it will create a bad habit and should you ever need to fire a revolver you will be in a world of hurt and could lose the tip or more of your finger if it's a hot enough cartridge or a magnum.

you need to be able to shoot with all your fingers you never know what may happen, military situation an IED goes off an you get blast burns on my hands an you arent wearing gloves theres a good chance your index, middle, and ring finger maybe injuried time to use your pinky.

I'm going to try it the next time at the range. My fingers are long, and I struggle with a few things as a result. Seems like I hold on a little more gentle if I use my middle finger. I'll know more later.

Using the middle finger for shooting takes the strongest part of your grip out of the equation. There is a reason the overwhelming majority of shooters use the index finger. Unless you have some type of disability, I'd suggest not trying to hoe your own road.

...For all of the reasons mentioned(post directly above me being the most obvious and pressing).

I seem to recall someone pushing this nonsense as a "point shooting method".

The things people come up with...

When I was a kid back in Miss. I had a friend who shot using his middle finger. It worked most of the time. He shot my Remington 1100 and some way he got his finger in the way of the operating handle. It was not a nice thing to see and we had to go to the Doc's to get his finger reset.
