Went to the range last night and I put 220 round through my m&p9. 200fmj and then followed up by ten rounds of 124gr HST and ten rounds of 124gr Speer gold dot. I realized this morning when looking at my account the kid only charged me for 2 boxes of ammo and not the hour of range time!

The take up is smooth and the break is clean. Night and day difference over stock. Yes my trigger had smoothed out but not to this extent. Not to mention the weight is significantly reduced from the Mass compliant weight that it was previously. In short I would install the hard sear and USB sooner rather than later. Another happy apex customer.

It has been easier for me to find 40s&w then 9mm so I'm tempted to get a full size .40 down the road as I conceal my 9 with 0 issues as far as printing goes. If I opt to get the .40 I know I would do the fss kit from the get go.

I'll post pics of my targets from last week compared to my targets from yesterday later on today when I have more time. I need to move my sights a hair to the right as I noticed I was favoring the left side of the target when I was aiming for the center.

Yesterday Shooting:

Last Week:

Also ordered 200 rounds of Speer gold dot to give me some extra carry ammo as my stash has been running really low.

Update:

Have made several range trips since last post in February, 5 to be exact. I have a total of 2475 rounds through my gun since I purchased it in November. It has been extremely reliable and has proven to shoot anything I have loaded up and put down the pipe.

I have been trying to find 124gr fmj in an effort to replicate my carry load. Today I worked on SHO shooting as well as reloads and target transitions at roughly 7-10 yards. I have been able to produce consistent groupings at these distances and I am trying to push my speed as well as keep accurate.

I have been doing dry fire each morning for 5 minutes to supplement my range trips which are at least once a month. I recently broke down all 6 of my mags and cleaned everything down as I have 3 practice mags and 3 designated carry mags and all were starting to get dirty. The practice mags were actually causing a couple of failure to lock back on empty and were in need of a good cleaning.

I did rent a ruger sr9 when I was at the range today just for kittens and giggles and I couldn't stand it. I am so used to the M&P it was hard for me to use. Not to mention I had a couple of failures including a failure to eject with that gun.

My fiancee thinks I should get a second full size 9mm and set it up like mine with the apex USB & hard sear except use the small palm swell for her... I cannot argue with that kind of logic, then I get a back up toy!

I have a set of black rear sights and a fiber optic front which are still hanging out in my gun vault, I am hoping to get them on sooner than later but at this point who knows when I will do it.

If you shop for ammo online, look for Aquila FMJ, they do make it in 124 grain. I bought a case of it a couple of years ago so my wife could match the home defense load that I keep in the gun. It cycles just fine in my Pro Series 9mm. Hope this helps!

Thanks Bill I will keep that in mind next time I am looking for ammo!

I ended up doing a full cleaning today and actually put my rear sight on. 10-8 performance black rear sight. Didn't have enough time to do my fiber optic front sight. Will plan on doing that Friday evening then hitting the range.

Glad to hear things are working out so well for you.

At the ranges your shooting; I don't believe there'll be any difference in POI between the 124gr and 115gr ammo.

I put the Apex CAEK in one of my M&P9's, and kept the stock trigger. The pull is south of 2 1/2 lbs, and I personally see no need to change triggers.

Thanks Rick! It's been fun maintaining, upgrading and of course shooting my M&P. Very happy with my purchase of my first handgun. It was a good gun to begin with but the apex parts have just been a fantastic addition to a very comfortable and reliable platform.

I love the new rear sight cannot wait to get the front installed and hit the range.

Couple new things. The fiber optic front with the new rear is awesome. I love the thinner front sight profile with the plain back rear sight. I put 150 rounds through it after the swap and it was not to hard to adjust to them. I'm thinking more range time will help me dial in coupled with my morning dry fire ritual.

I had ordered a JM custom kydex aiwb rig with extra tuck back in May. I got the tracking number yesterday and I am awaiting that delivery. I will post up pics and my impressions when it arrives.

Enjoy the 4th everyone be happy & stay safe this Independence Day!

Glad you're having a big time!

There's a lot worse things a guy could do than get into the shooting sports, and carry for personal protection.

Hope you never need it; but if you ever do your family will be very glad you did!

Keep those range reports coming, and some pictures from time to time are appreciated too.

new addition

Went to the range last week and put 200 rounds down the pipe again. I love the new sights on it.

I ended up buying a M&P .45c after getting to play with one for a little bit. My collection just got a little bigger.

Pics will come soon enough. Did some dry fire and boy is that trigger rough. I'll be doing some apex enhancements sooner than later.

This gun thing is addicting for sure. I had a full size 9 and I needed a compact. 45... why not?

Thanks Bill! I got to get the fun toys now... If the AG gets elected in November to governor of the Commi-wealth well we might not be able to get anything besides pointy sticks. Not too pointy mind you.

Update: I am coming up on a year of owning my full size 9 and I have been keeping spreadsheets and tracking my rounds and malfunctions with each gun. To date I have 3200 rounds through my 9 with an average of 185 rounds per trip. I have had 3 ftfs all with 115gr wwb fmj ammo which I believe to be primer related.

I have installed the apex USB, apex hard sear, 10-8 fo front site, 10-8 black rear site, and the lf arms extended mag release. My trigger pull went down from 10lbs to about 6which feels fantastic in comparison.

I work on dry fire practice at least 3 times a week and focus on trigger manipulation. When I go to the range I try and make a plan to get the most out of my time and ammo. Last night for instance I focused on transitioning through various targets at different distances. I am looking to get a shot timer to better gauge my speed and better evaluate my training progression.

My 45 has 450 rounds through it since I purchased it in July. Currently the 45 is my edc and I have installed an apex USB, hard sear and a lf arms extended mag release. Currently stock sights but I will probably be swapping them out for a set of 10-8s like my 9mm. Trigger pull is about the same as the 9mm as it started at 10lbs and is around 6lbs now.

Last night I ejected the mag and fired the chambered round and induced a stove pipe otherwise there have been no issues with the 45 so far.

Both guns ride in a JM custom appendix rig or a desantis mad max holster for carry depending on my attire. As of late I have been carrying the 45 with winchester pdx-1 defender 230gr ammo the 9 I carry with 124gr speer gold dot.

I have come a long way since joining the forum and having trouble with the sear deactivation lever lol.

-stay classy.

Well I just tried to install my 10-8 performance rear sight and I had a hell of a time doing so. Boogered up the sides of the sight pretty good with my punch.not happy about it couldn't even get the sight installed. My rear sight on my 9 was no issues whatsoever so I'm kind of surprised I'm having such a hard issue with the .45.

Sorry to hear of that!

I use a brass punch, and grind an offset angle on one side of it, then an angle on the tip that exactly matches the dovetail side of whatever gun/sight I'm removing.

I also file/stone the rear edge of the dovetail on the new sight until it'll go at least half way in with finger pressure only.

I secure the slide in a vise before starting any sight work.

Good luck at getting things sorted out!

Edit: Per your comments about 124gr ball 9mm; Freedom Munitions sell both new and Reman 124gr ball. The reman cost is just a hair over $200./1000 delivered.
