My wife and I have been shooting our M&P22's once/week or so at a Cowboy venue that has a 22lr falling plates area. We also shoot at the Cowboy bays, but the steel is very large and the maximum range isn't much more than 12 yards, the combination not a very realistic simulation of steel challenge.
I bought five 5" AR500 steel plates and we had a blast; a 5" round plate at 10 yards is smaller (14 milliradians or 48 moa). At 10 yards this is smaller than any of the steel challenge targets. This really teaches the importance of proper trigger management; no sense in a fast target transition and good sight alignment only to mess things up by rushing the trigger.
We also found out that we can shoot our 9mm and 40 cal M&p provided we use lead or coated lead bullets. I'm starting reloading next week and I'm definitely on the hunt for some lead.
