Range Report 1st Time Out With Shield 9

I purchased my Shield 9 mm almost 2 weeks ago and finally got to go to the range. I was really happy with the Shield and ran 93 rounds through it. It shoots great but is quite a bit snappier than my FS 9. I have 1 - 7 round mag and 3 - 8 round mags so I had to reload twice. I need more mags! At 7 yards I shoot the Shield as well or better than the FS 9. The Shield makes the FS really feel like a soft shooter and the slide on the Shield is a pain to operate compared to the FS.

I am waiting for my CHL to arrive in the mail and the Shield will then be my EDC. Until then I am wearing it around the house trying to get used to an IWB holster.

Congrats! The slide will get easier to rack, either because the recoil spring breaks in or you get better at it.

If you want to increase your mag capacity, look into MagGuts.

If you want to improve the grips, look into Talon grip tape.

What IWB did you get?

I have already check out the MagGuts springs and will probably upgrade at least a couple of my mags but I will probably eventually get 3 or 4 more mags. It would be nice to be able to shoot more and reload less. At least the UpLula makes reloading easy.

I am happy with the grips as they are for now. As I shoot more I may determine I need some grip tape but for now I'm OK with the stock grips.

I have own my Shield for about two years and just love shooting it. It's a great gun to carry for conceal and EDC.

AgentOrange, I have a N82Tactical Professional model holster for IWB. This is my first holster so I don't really have anything to compare it to. I have been wearing it around the house and I can forget I have it on but I suppose that can be the case with almost any good holster. I have had a shoulder replacement so I am somewhat limited in where I can wear the holster and draw comfortably but so far about 3 with a slight forward cant seems to be the best position for me.

At some point I will likely get another holster that has a smaller footprint but I like the way the N82 keeps the grip from poking me in the side. I can sit comfortably wearing the holster at 3 and don't really notice it until I lean to the right. I want to find something that will ride just a little bit lower but will probably also be looking for a OWB since Texas will allow open carry after the Jan 1st. I don't plan to open carry but will likely wear a OWB with a jacket, vest, or untucked shirt.

When I started shooting my Shield 9mm I was surprised at how well I shot it. It outshot some of my full size Glocks and HKs. Although, to be honest, besting that HK DA/SA trigger ain't that hard.

Shot my M and P 9mm (new) today. I have a Viridian R5? red laser on it. I was trying to sight the laser. When I shot at target (using laser), I hit right on my mark. However, when I aimed laser at hole in target, then compared where sight aligment was, the gun was actually aiming to the right and low of laser/hole I had previously shot. I have a crazy steady trigger finger as well. I fired numerous shots trying to get laser alinged with sights (at 25 feet distance). The range master told me there is a "breaking in" period for the barrel? He said after a few hundred rounds it would be more accurate. Any truth to this? Thanks in advance.

What usually happens is that after a few hundred rounds you become more familiar with the gun and the way the trigger works, so you become more accurate.

You say the gun shoots to the point of aim, but when you aim at the bullet hole its off, sorry but that doesn't make any sense, its shooing to the point of aim, or its not. I'm sure its just a matter of description, you might try again.

Reading this thread makes me want to get back to the range and shoot at some targets. We shot at an indoor range a month or so ago...was shooting at 15 and 20 feet. I am impressed with my Shield and how it performs.
