I have a 9 Pro that I stipppled the grips on and made a few frame mods for better control and fit for me and added a mag-well. I shoot it in ESP in IDPA. I am considering ordering a .40 for use in USPSA limited and was thinking that if I could just change out the slide and barrel, I could go back to stock service pistol with the 9 and have a conversion barrel for the 40 with the stippled/modified frame that I could also use in enhanced service pistol.
Will the frames, slides and barrels interchange between the 5" 9mm pro and the 5" .40 pro? That way, I would always have a backup with additional parts.
They are the same. I have a 357sig M&P FS and an M&P9L. My 9L has a sandpaper grip on it and the apex parts. I didn't have those yet in my M&P357 so i swapped the 2. The 357sig slide and .40 slides are the same, one just happens to say 357 and the other says 40. width is the same, frames are the same, 90% of the parts are the same. the only differences are the barrels and the breech face, and since 357 and 40 share a parent case, the slides are identical.
As soon as I get my Pro-40, my frame with all the trick trigger parts will pull duty with both slides/barrels. I just have to shape the striker in the 40 to match the striker in my 9 (Burwell modified), so that they striker and sear match up as tuned...
Thanks for the info all, I have the MP9 FS myself, bought it about 2 months ago and I LOVE IT!! it shoots so sweet. I was also curious about interchanging betweeen the 9 and 40, oh heck.... and the 357 too! haha, can I get a 40 barrrel and mag and swap it with my 9? or do I need to have the 40 to do that? Also can anyone tell me if the same is possible to do with the compact model? I am in the market for one, used or new doesn't matter to me, but do I need to get the 40 and then buy the 9 barrel/mags? or can I get the 9 and get the 40 barrel/mags? Any help on this topic will be verry usefull to me as I am looking to get a compact model here pretty soon, but I would like to know what model to get in order to be able to interchange them, like having 2-3 guns within one.
Just know that while it physically possible, it is against the rules (IDPA and USPSA) to swap slides to change calibers. Search on benos' site, it's been beaten to death.
Although, who would know, without calling S&W with the serial number to find out how it left the factory.
