Update on internals

I just bought a used M&P .40 full size. I bought it from an older gentleman, and it has sat in his safe for the most part. He estimated round count of less than 100. It has zero wear or obvious flaws. It's dated at 4/2012. My question is this. What all factory updates have been made since then, and is it anything that is a must? Does it improve the gun to the point of needing to send it in to have anything updated or replaced?

Does it need any updates? Not in my opinion, mine dates to 2006 and is bone stock except for some trigger parts from Apex Tactical, and improving the stock trigger is the number one modification to these pistols no matter when they were made.

The only thing I would do is replace the sear with an Apex Hard Sear and go to work with it.

X2 for the Apex sear. To my knowledge only a few of the very early gen M&P 40s had a mag drop problem. My 40 was one of them bought in 2007. That problem has since been fixed. I did have a slide stop break and again S&W has continually updated parts as the bugs have shown up. I have about 6000 rounds through mine and wouldn't trade it for anything.

Welcome to the forum! You can shoot with confidence! Both of my FS guns are of the same vintage and I've had absolutely no problem with them! Hope this helps!
