As far as the data. Did the book state lead bullet? Lead will run a little faster than jacketed charge for charge, but 1230 sounds a little hot. Don't need that much vel to cycle. For just shooting I would save powder and run a min load.

behoof, your velocity is way to hot, and the variance is way out of line. that's Open gun territory in the mid 1300s.. You should expect about +/-15fps for same headstamp case. the IMR website shows 4 grains should get you around 1,000fps, which is about right for a 9mm practice ammo. I would start at 3.3 grains. And pull the rest of those bullets and weight the charge. 1.125" is not too long, in fact, you can go longer. 1.170" is maximum length, much longer than that and it wouldn't feed. Which brand of bullets are you using?

I looked at my chronograph info, shot out of my Beretta 92FS with a 5" bbl, average velocity for mine was running in the area of 1100 fps with my standard load, an alternate load with a different powder averages 1150 fps, all shot with 115 gr jacketed bullets.

Standard deviation on all my 9mm loads runs on average less than 20fps, and the extreme spread of all my chronograph data in 9mm is less than 50fps.
