Im no pro.....but I'm pretty sure the only m&p core is a pistol. The budget AR Smith is the M&P 15 Sport. I have one, and love it. I have not had ANY malfunctions at all. I paid $599 for mine....hope this helps

No CORE, but they do have an M&P15OR, the OR refers to optics ready, the CORE might be a misunderstanding, I don't know.

I have a bunch of AR's, all of which I built myself, but I understand the M&P15's are pretty popular and supposed to be a good gun, if I wanted a factory made AR I think a M&P15 would be a good choice.

M&P Sport 15, and if he has one, get it.

Its a slick side AR (no forward assist, no dust cover, no major worries) budget weapon that has proven to be high value buy with great build and reliability.

We went the "custom" route, with Anderson lower and Bear Creek upper with 556 Wylde chamber, I want a rifle that will endure the elements and still function.

At any rate, the Sport 15 will be much handy when the Zombies come, and it's Timex reliable (old school Timex, not current offerings):

Good luck... Get 1 or 3 and LOTS of ammo AND mags, while you can...

There aree SEVERAL good offerings, Winham has my eye too, but for the MONEY I do NOT think you can get a better AR.

It was mentioned that the M&P Sport lacks a forward assist, which is no big deal at all, if you ever need any assistance in getting the bolt to seat fully, look in the ejection port at the side of the bolt, you will see a depressed area with two gas vents in it, this is a much better place to push the bolt forward than the forward assist button, that depression is shaped just right for a thumb to push forward on the bolt.

When hunting and you need to put one in the chamber, pulling the lever and letting fly, the proper method, makes a lot of noise and can scare game, lowering the lever slowly so its quiet almost never lets the bolt lock, so the rifle won't fire, I found on my rifle the forward assist was worthless in getting the bolt to lock, but pushing forward in that notch in the bolt worked every time!

Just be advised if you are out shooting, and you have shot a lot, the bolt can be hot, you will probably need gloves to do that.
