Weather its a $10,000 generator or a $500 sheild the customer is being taken advantage of. I've been in business for over twenty years and I understand how capitalism works but I also know how you should treat your customers if you want build a successful business. You are correct they can ask any price they want for their product,I'm just not going to be one of their customers.

And there-in lies the beauty of the free market. If a local or online competitor chooses to sell at a lower mark-up, you have the freedom to take your business there.

The market is self-correcting.

I charge $70-90 per hour for private fitness training in my own private studio. YOU can work out at the local packed gym on your own, or at home for free with no equipment. The market gives you choices. Are my rates ridiculous? Am I gouging my clients? I don't think so. Most voluntarily sign a new check every month. If someone else opens a training studio next door and offers $50/hr? I better be REALLY good!

LOL

Most gun buyers have no clue what the mark up is on guns.on most new guns $40 to $60 per gun is very good. I have some of the best prices around and I still have customers who want more money off. When there are a few guns that are out now that I can sell at or above MSRP why not. Take the Kel-tec PMR 30. I have never seen that gun listed under MSRP.

With guns being sold on the web now I think if things don't change that web gun sales will kill the small mom and pop gun shops, or you will see tranfer fee's go up. With some of the big online gun site have everything dropped shipped from the wholesalers they can afford to sell a gun at $10 over cost becuse they don't have to pay for gun till you buy it from them.
When they will not do that for any other dealer. I have to buy all my guns and sit on them intill someone buys it. LGS owners we have to guess what our customers want.

Sorry I will stop rambling. So yes when I can get as much for a gun as I can don't get mad at me for trying to make a living.

Gentlemen, that is the very reason I shop at the local dealers . If they are asking MSRP I have certainly paid that many times, as I feel most manufactures have established a fair mark up. If someone wants to go beyond that price I don't get upset but I won't make a purchase from them.

I've never been directly insulted by online retailers... Nor have I received the "why would you want that" questions or "those are crap" comments buying online.

Long live the free market.

haha. This reminds me of when I went to order my M&P from the LGS. He kept telling me for that price, you should just buy a Glock. The first time, Ok, I gotcha. But three to four times is just too much. Online sales for me now I think.

My shop is small only 500 sqft. I pride my self on the customer serive you will get in my shop. I go way out of my way to think my customers and let them know that with out them I am out of a job. I gave back to my customers. For every gun you buy in my shop we put your name in the ammo can and every 50 guns we sell in the shop I give away one free. I am not giveing out glocks and stuff like that. But fun stuff. The last few times have been single action 22lr.

I am well under 40 and have more then a few tattoos and they way some guns shop owners acted with me was said. I am now takeing business from the same shops becuse on how good I take care of them.

When a husband and wife come to look at guns for her. I talk to her. They stuff I do in my shop is what you want from most shops and don't get. I opened my doors in jan of this year and I am now waiting fo my 1000sqft shop it be done.

I am not a perfect shop but I listin to my customers wants and needs and that is why you will never have someone in my shop talking down to anyone about what carry.

I'm seeing a fundamental disconnect between what you claim to do, and what you actually do. Maybe it's just me.

If you will re read my 1st post. I'm not in my shop. So this fundamental disconnect you say is there is not. If I was in my shop then yes. But this is the web not my shop. I cam to this site to talk about the guns I like very much not try and sell anything.

Couldn't agree more...we in America/Free Markets call it supply and demand. Supply low + Demand high = charge whatever the heck you want. We, the customer, will tell you if your prices are off base with our buying choice. That's the other great of free markets, you and I are free to buy most things, including the ever popular S&W M&P Shield, anywhere we want. Though I would have loved to have paid less then $425 for mine (last one in stock at my LGS), I didn't. And though I should have practiced the will power to wait and buy my Shield when S&W production caught up with demand thus driving down prices (maybe and maybe not) to around $399 or even less, I didn't.

So there you have it...my point being: I love this country!

Happy Shooting!

Took my 40 to the range, to compare recoil to my Ruger LC9. Honestly the recoil on the Shield 40 is the same as the LC9. I think one reason is that the shield is 3 ounces heavier. But the biggest reason is the Shield's bore axis sits 3/16 inch lower, than the LC9's. I made a 5 minute video comparing the two guns recoil, shooting target ammo and high power SD ammunition.

Picked up my 40 Shield at the Little Rock AFB Exchange for $378.00 out the door (no tax). They had gotten in 3 (2 9mm & 1 40 Cal) that mornng and I bought the last one at 1230. Really happy with the accuracy of the little gun. Yep, Its a keeper....

Update to pricing. A new gun shop just recently opened in Sarasota Florida. It is call High Noon Guns. We already have at least 10 gun shops in the area. It likely will not be around long. Went in and saw a Shield 40 sitting in a display case. Was going to say that I was surprised it was still there. Then I saw the price tag of $569.00. That is a 27% markup over the list price of $449.00. You know someone will buy it, but your average guy, like me, will remember who is ripping them off.

I have been checking the 2 exchanges near me (Ft Carson and Peterson AFB) for weeks but they never got any in (yet). Ended up at the local Sportsmans $399 - 5% military discout +tax = $409 OTD. Wish the exchange would have gotten one in, could have saved me $30
