No issues with mine but I have only fired a few rounds through it. I like the idea of listing the serial # in the poll. May be it will show a connection.

Just the 40's (and not all of them). I know a few people with 40 Shields here and no problems.

Zero mag drops on the 9's that I have heard of anywhere

I'm wondering if they designed the 9 Shields after the 40's like they did with the FS 9's and the FS 40's ?

S&W has now had my shield for 2 weeks on the mag drop issue, i will be calling tomorrow to see i i can get any updates. On the S&W forum this is not an isolated problem, and for them to say they havent heard of the issue is BS unless these customer service reps live isolated in a cave somewhere. S&W should admit they have an issue with these guns, and a lot of them.
They arent winning any points with their supposeded reputation with me, as this is the second S&W gun i,ve had an issue with and their supposed top notch customer service hasnt impressed me
Ive had better reliability with Taurus products

This is the first I have heard of the mag problem. So maybe S&W really hasn't heard of the problem. I have 2 Shields. One in each caliber. Both have run perfect.......

It's the second or third most discussed "problem" in these forums. They've known about this for at least 6 years. There are a few other problems they'll say they've never heard of, like: 9mm early unlocking, sear flutter/dead trigger, breaking strikers, striker dragging, teardrop shape on primer, light strikes, breaking barrels, long trigger pull, gritty trigger, no tactile reset, "slide releaase" too stiff, slide locking back before last round, slide not locking back after last round, not like the Glock, just like a Glock, trigger too light, trigger too heavy, slide lock lever falling off, rails cracking/splitting, recoil assembly coming apart, slide rust, barrel rust, takedown lever snapping back up, "stainless" roll mark missing, out of battery issues, muzzle leading, magazine coming apart on impact, roll pin walking, trigger safety pivot pin walking, loose sights, tight sights, frame cracking, double feed, missed feed, magazine dropping, rearward extraction, brass mark on ejection port, extractor pivot pin breaking, chamber chipping, tight chamber, extractor failure... just to name a few. Some of these have at least 50 reports just in these forums, and some are considerably less frequent, but S&W is acutely aware of most of them.

And of course, my favorite, the ubiquitous "low left" that almost every shooter complains about (until they learn how to shoot).

If they havent heard of this problem, they must work in a cave underground, 1 out of every 3 people on this forum, are having this issue with the .40 caliber shield

Interesting that you say the problem with the Shields are six years old.

They shutdown for vacation as do many manufacturing operations. They deserve a few days away from all our complaining.

Only one response to that, make them right the first time and we wont complain, ,based on the number of faulty guns, they need more then a vacation, sounds like some of their workers need permanent vacations

I think I will stick with my 9C for a bit.... It isn't that much bigger and still conceals well on me... When the bugs seem to be worked out after a while I will no doubt pick up a shield.

I believe KRW was speaking in more general terms. The 40c had an issue with the mags dropping from the get go. Smith & Wesson eventually redesigned the mag release(new materials?) and the issue seems to have gone away.

The issue with the the shield may be related but it may be(spoken with a John Cleese, British accent) "something completely different"

I put 20 rounds of 180 grain speer gold dot through my shield .40 today without a problem. I need to pick up a box of practice ammo to give it a better workout.

Crossing my fingers that i didnt get a mag dropper.

Serial DXX1###

my 9mm shield is flawless and shoots great.

Followup:

I shot 20 rounds of speer gold dot 180g through my DXX1### .40 cal shield yesterday. No mag drops.

Today i bought 100 rounds of the cheapest stuff i could find at walmart. No mag drops. Slowfire, both mags, rapid fire.

It was really accurate at 15 yards. Tight groups in an 8 inch circle. Im really happy with how well it shoots. I hope to get to 300 plus rounds in the next few weeks to really give it a workout and see if the mag drop problem develops.
