Since there are guys here who have actually used TFO's, what are your thoughts/experiences regarding the use of green front and yellow rear sights as opposed to all green.
First post here, but since I've owned TFO thought I could give you my impressions...

1. They are awesome when it comes to sight picture acquisition.
2. They work day or night - some of the brightest sights I've used.
3. They don't last long - mine failed after less than a year on my G23c, round count give or take ~1000. Granted, my Glock is compensated and as such gasses blow pretty darn close to the front sight.

They are a little more expensive, but then again the argument could be made that a mature shooter could afford to pay for them a little easier and more often than a lest financially established individual could. I elected to go with different replacements this time around... Trijicon HD™ Night Sights this time around.

Thanks for your comments on the TFO's. You made me wonder about how much the compensated /slide/barrel effected the life of them. At one time I owned a G19C & the front of the slide would become almost white from the gasses being thrown out.
Lasting less than a year isn't a good thing to hear & it doesn't matter how old your are or how much cheese you've got in the cupboard, a bad deal is a bad deal. Isn't there a warranty on them? If I remember correctly my Trijicon's have a 10 year warranty but I could be wrong about that.

I don't complain about the longevity I had with the sites especially due to the fact I had them installed on a compensated weapon. I felt that in owning this weapon, that I very well likely would have to replace the sights more frequently due to its compensation. I had hope that they would last longer, and agree as you say... it isn't about how old or how much one makes, but rather the expectation that the product is a quality one. To that I say, I enjoyed them immensely. Would I buy them again? Not for the G23c.

If you do a google search on TFO faliures there are a lot of reports of this happening - on non-compensated weapons as well. As far as warranty is concerned, the TFO's have a limited 1 year warranty on them, I could be wrong it has been awhile since I read through it.

Sights

I am running a tritium front (with white circle around the dot) and a plain black, wide notch rear sight supplied and installed by Novak's on my first Shield. I find the wider notch very helpful as I age (now 54).
On my second Shield, Novak's is installing the same rear sight, with my personal favorite, their 14 kt. flat-faced gold bead front. I am just too used to the traditional sight picture to work with the rounded front and shallow-V rear of the XS sights.

Still leary of the durability of fiber-optic front sights, in terms of damage or loss of the tube.

Oldlawman ,good point . I ran a big dot set up on my Kahr p9 for quite a while
but finally gave up and went back to a square notch rear with fiber optic front. Don't get me wrong I found the big dot worked great for up close and fast. I just couldn't get used to the sight picture for more accurate shots.

I've got the XS Big Dot on my 40c, and I couldn't be happier with it. As for accurracy, with just a little bit of practice, I can consistently hit 8" paper plates out to 25 yards

That is the same set up that I run.

Wish Novak would offer their "SuperWide" .170 rear notch on all of their models. You can only get it for 1911s (and all of mine have them).

After making a few trips to the range with my Shield I've come to the conclusion that as far as accuracy is concerned it's no different than any of the other polymer framed, compact, semi autos out there. It's a point & shoot gun, nothing more, nothing less & when it comes to sights I can't find a legitimate reason to spend over $100 for something that's not needed.

This is just my opinion after trying many of these type guns.

Iust got back from the range with my 1st experience with big dots. I love TFOs, but should have gone to big dots years ago. (I'm 57).

Might as well just put a red dot on your carry gun.
