FTF's

I bought my 9MM Shield on June 8th but couldn't get to the range until today. To say I was disappointed would be a huge understatement.
I took a box of 100 WWB, 230 gr and had 12 FTF's Before I went I was so confident of it's reliability I didn't take any other ammo so I couldn't prove if it was the ammo or the gun.
Anyway, I went ahead and sent an email to S&W, but, tomorrow I'm going back to the range with some other ammo.
BTW, the rounds that failed to fire had been struck by the firing pin.

Not to mention getting them into the mag. Do they make WWB in 100 round boxes ? Can't find any here.

Also - did you clean the gun before your first trip?

I picked up my 2nd one last Sat. Shot it yesterday and today.

I have 450 rounds thru it now, and 1250 rounds thru my first one I bought 2.5 months ago. 1700 rounds total between the two. Work fine, and use WWB all the time

That's what I ment (230 grain 45's in 100 round WWB) I fine 50 rounds boxes in 45 easy.

That's about all I buy is 9 mm WWB in 100 round boxes.

OK-OK, I deserve all the ribbing, I'd probably crucify a guy for saying that also. Call it a "senior moment", of course it wasn't 230 gr, it was 115 though. Give a guy a break, after all I was pretty upset about all the FTF's, but, if it makes you guys feel any better you've got my ok to call me "230" from now on.

Smith&Wesson usually loads their pistols up with a thick, greasy coating for protection -- although as fast as the Shields are selling, they probably aren't going to need to be stored very long before use. I know I had to field strip and thoroughly clean my FS .40 and lube it before firing.

lol, no problem. I figured it was a typo or a brain typo. no biggie.

I would look at the unfired primers just to compare weather or not theyre struck as deep as the ones that went boom. If they are, then I would say its clearly the ammo, but something tells me that having that many duds in one box is next to impossible. I think I can count on one hand, the amount of duds ive come across in my 30 years of shooting. let alone a dozen in one box.
assuming theyre not struck as deep.. have you done any trigger work to the weapon?

The primers that failed to go boom should have a deeper mark than the ones that did. Pressure within those going boom typicaly pushes the primer back out a bit unless they are very light loads.

True, and good point. unless they just wernt struck hard enough to start with. I guess at that point, you would get your answer. If its deep, then its the primer. if its too shallow, its the gun (or some part of it, to be more specifically vague)

The ONLY FTF's I have had with my shield .40, were Winchester White Box, both out of he same box (lot number?).
I have since fired another 200 rounds of WWB without incident.

As M4gunner stated with his primer info, the primer strikes on the 2 FTF's were centered and very deep. Indicating a bad primer.

All of the shield FTF's I have read about here, and on other forums, have been with WWB.

OK, I was finally able to take a few pics that might be helpful, this is one of the FTF's

Another thing that looked strange to me is that the "WIN" that's usually stamped on the head of the casing isn't there and that made me look at the rest of the boxes of WWB I have in stock. Of the 3 remaining boxes 2 of them had the "WIN" stamped on them but the last one was full of what's in the picture. As I looked closer the casings appeared discolored, no new, they look like reloads to me but I'm not an expert.

Now I'm really confused, is it bad ammo, a bad gun or both?

BTW, my camera skills are pretty bad so the one pic above is the only one that can be seen clearly.
