| APEX vs Burwell
I just bought a 9mm M&P shield and am happy with the gun but would like a lighter trigger. Has anyone installed the forward sear and trigger kit from apex? Could I save a little money and get the same thing out of a trigger job from Dan burwell? I love the triggers on my 1911's and seems Burwell claims his trigger jobs are close to a 1911 and cheaper then the Apex which seems to be a nice sytem as well. My goal is around 4-4.5lb pull. Turns out the forward sear and trigger kit will NOT fit the shield. Turns out the only thing you can use on the shield is APEX duty carry which consist of the parts that interchangable between the m&p and shield, from they told me in an email if I use the hard sear and the usb kit with factory springs it will provide around a 4.25lb pull which would be perfect for what I want... Thanks for your reply...

I've had Dan Burwell do a trigger job on my 9 Pro with the pre-travel adjustment and welded over-travel. Very pleased with it. My only gripe is that he's hard to get a hold of and doesn't return emails. It might take you a while to get in contact with him. Other than that, no issues.

I've pulled the trigger on both side by side. If you're comfortable with doing the work, the Apex is great. Burwell's work is really good, but hard to feel the difference. FWIW, I'm used to a 32oz trigger. |

I didn't have Dan do a trigger job to reduce my takeup but rather to shorten the break. It is really nice. The Apex is almost as good but not quite as refined. (I have the Apex carry kit and the comp kit on two of my M&P's) If one doesn't want to pay for shipping to and from Dan, then the Apex is fine but if that isn't an issue, I'd have Dan do the work again.

I installed Apex in my Shield 40. Per Apex, if you use the stock Shield springs (trigger and sear) the pull will drop to 4 to 5 pounds. My stock pull was 6.5, it is now 4.25 pounds. I only installed the Apex sear and striker blocker. The duty/carry kits only includes higher pressure springs to raise the pull weight from 5 to 6 pounds. Go to my channel on YouTube, I have all the before and after results, and install videos. channel link: robkarrob11's channel - YouTube Bob Last edited by robkarrob; August 23rd, 2012 at 04:07 PM. |

Just got my wife's M&P9 FS back from Burwell(my second gun he worked on).. Difference in the trigger is Night and Day!! The Apex is nice, but feels a little too much like a Glock. Burwell has my vote!!!

what's your secret in getting burrell to respond to you? I tried several emails and called him but never heard back.

It seems he has too much business. Sent him an email and auto response was if you don't hear back from me in a week, send another email. After two emails with no response, I choose the Apex self install.

I did have problems getting with him. But just be persistant. It was worth the hassle.
