| New sights for my Shield
I was lucky enough to pick up a new and a used Shield last month, so I thought I would send one of them off for new sights. Based on another thread, I talked to James at XD-HS2000, and told him what I wanted. He assured me he could install the Tru-Glo TFO sights I wanted, and that they would be perfect when it was returned. I also mentioned that I had another Shield, that the front sight had been replaced, but was not exactly dead center. He suggested that I send it along also, and he could fix it for me. I purchased the TFO sights from him, and boxed up both slides and dropped in the mail on a Monday morning. On Saturday of that same week, the slides were back at my house. The TFO sights were installed perfectly, and he was even able to align the front sight sight on Shield #2. He only charged me for the sights. Installation was free, and he refused payment for fixing the off-center sight. I would highly recommend his work, and suggest that if anyone has sight work they would like performed, to please contact James. His websight can be found here: Welcome Enjoy, Jerry ![]() ![]() |

I thought TFO sights for the Shield (back set) did not fit flush but rather hung off the back of the slide by a small amount. From the pictures, yours look "flush" with the back of the slide. If this correct, do you know which model of TFO's were put on you Shield?

The gunsmiths are filing them down a bit, taking a 1/32 or so off each side, and re-bluing the metal. You can do this yourself with a bottle of cold-blue from Midway or Brownells. Probably a good idea to have around anyway. HINT: file them down in a vice BEFORE you install them!! Jeff |

I just got TFO's installed last week at a lgs and I can't wait to take it to the range. I thought about sending my slide out to xdhs2000 but I'm impatient.

PM's returned. As soon as I get back in town I will take better pics and post up. It is my opinion that the sights were not filed down. I will take some very close-up pics and get an answer for all of you. Jerry |

In the last pic it appears that there is slight overhang on the sides of the dove tail slot and you can see small shadows from overhang under each corner of the sight. Love them none the less. If truglo doesnt come out with some quick I may go this route.

A lot of folks have asked for a few close up pics, and some info on POA/POI. I took the following for a friend: Here you go. A few numbers, that are very unscientific, and a few pictures. I used my digital micrometer to make a few measurements to go along with the pictures. The base of the original sight was measured at .821" The base of the TFO sights appears to be .870" The flat part (base) of the "sight channel" on the slide appears to be ~.867" The slide itself, at the rear, below the sight, appears to be ~.905" So, the TFO sights are slightly wider at the base, and stick out ~.003" from the sight channel. They do not however stick out past the side of the slides. I looked at it last night, and again this morning, and had decided that everybody was wrong and they did not stick out. Then I started measuring and taking pictures and it became obvious that they do stick out. With the naked eye I would never had guessed it. Since it is going to replace my G19 for a summer carry gun, and likely will get banged and beat up, I am not going to even worry about it. Had it been on a very high dollar carry piece, then I might be concerned. These pictures are very close-up and blown up a little, to help see the detail. It is not nearly this obvious when holding or shooting. The target was taken at 10 yards. Not my best shooting, but keep in mind I have not shot in about 3 weeks, and have only shot the Shield around 50 times or so. I ran out back and took 8 or 9 shots to get this target. I was completely covering the center ring with my front sight. Jerry ![]() ![]() ![]() |

The over hang is so minimal it's not worth filing down. Good information.....and thanks for the added pictures. I ordered the Apex and also a set of TFO's. Should be in early next week. I'm convinced this is the best way to go.

Thanks for posting the pics. Can you post one more of the rear sight with the gun on its side so we can see how it matches up ith the back of the slide. Hows the front fit? Thanks

i'd let someone else do it rather than take the chance of marring it up... I have a installation tool generic that works pretty well but I still sent my hk to get sights on it to james at xd-hs2000

Got my TFOs on today! Front sight was stubborn The overhang does not bother me near as much as I thought it would. Love them! Now I need to know if there is a way to remove the caution statement on the side of the slide with out marring the finish.
