Fed up with the wait.

I'll be the first to admit that I am not a patient man, but after a long time of calling gun stores, stopping in gun stores, and checking various online sites, I am tired of the wait on the Shield .40 (or 9mm if necessary).

Now I know I'm on a S&W forum.....but what do you think of the Kahr CM40?

Is that about as close to the shield as I'm going to get at this price point?

Thanks guys.

I know how you feel. I had to wait 6 months for a MA compliant shield to come out. AND, the only reason I got mine when I did was because I knew the owner of the shop...It is well worth the wait though. I wouldn't settle for a gun you don't really want. You will thank me later!

Zatx, This is my first post on this forum ,but I have been on Walther for a long time. I have owned 4 Kahrs & I did like them, but was never comfortable without a safety. I traded my last PM for a Ruger LC9 with a laser + cash to my dealer & he kept the Kahr for himself.

They were the best of the small 9's , but I would rather have the Shield . I have owned a large number of S&W guns & never had a bad one. I have a Shield coming in 9mm. I can't tell you about it, but there are plenty of people on here that love them.

The safety means a lot to me on a striker fired gun. I am old and grew up with autos with safetys. I would wait for the Shield.

While I really like the one M&P that I have, I don't have any experience with the Shield version. That said, I do have the CM9, and like it enough that I got my son one for Christmas this year, for a new CCW piece.

It is only 6+1 though, vs. the 7- or 8-round +1 of the shield. Then again, it was in stock and only $399 nib at the lgs.

I have a M&P Shield and I like it!. I had to call all over the US to find one, but after three days of calling found one and had it shipped to my local FFL. Cost was $429, so I couldn't complain.

With all fairness, the only reason I had the time to search all over for the Shield was the fact that I had just had surgery and was laid up with nothing else to do. If it had been a normal week and I was at work I would of never been able to get the spend the time to find the Shield.

Check Florida Gun Exchange. They have had some 40s recently.

Kahr's are very nice pistols. I've owned a CM9, CW9, and my favorite a PM9. I sold the PM after I found 2 shields while shopping for my wife. I grabbed them both and we each carry them. I sold the PM and wished I'd have kept it. Don't get me wrong, I like the slight length of grip over the PM, and the trigger reset. That's about it. The Kahr's have an exceptionally smooth and long trigger. Smooth as silk. But you literally feel no reset point so I never got used to shooting it at the range consistently. But plenty of folks do. For me it's a toss up. There are some differences but both are very nice carry pistols. I will be buying a Kahr P380 for pocket carry soon, and maybe another PM9 down the road.

I recently purchased a Kahr CM40 and was pleasantly suprised by it's quality and design. It's super compact and light and carries like a dream in a PJ IWB kydex holster. I added a Pearce grip extension and it shoots like a dream. The M&P Shield still does intrigue me but being a .40 guy I'm not thrilled with all the mag drop reports.

I agree Gene!

Pulling the trigger on a striker gun is not enough safety at least for me.

Been on 2 waiting lists here in Oregon since October for the Shield 9

Hoping to get "the call" before Fienstein changes the 2a!

That has been the biggest factor drawing me to the CM40... it's significantly smaller than the Shield, plus you can actually walk into an LGS and buy one. That being said, the fit/finish/quality of the Shield, and the ability to drop a 9mm barrel in it for range time keep drawing me back to the Shield.

Decisions, decisions.

A fellow M&P40 shooter at the range I frequent was insistant that this was not only safe, but that S&P condones it. I showed him the letter from S&W that clearly stated that this was a bad idea. He continued to use a factory M&P9 barrel in his M&P40 until he was injured when a reloaded round kicked the 9mm barrel's insufficient locked-up out of battery causing a catastrophic failure. I can't help but think if I had been a little more aggressive in warning him of the potential problem, he probably would have been fine.

Stay safe,

KRWeiss.

I highly recommend that M&P40 owners use a 9mm conversion barrel or downloaded 40S&W loads for range work.

If you can live with the Kahrs long heavy trigger and price then get one. Also shooting 40 in that small pistol is not for me and Im not recoil sensitive!
The M&P 40s S&W are tame compared to almost any other 40 even in larger sized 40 handguns.
All that said I would get it in 9mm but that's me.
If your in a hurry the only thing that compares to the M&P is a Glock as I have both.
I would go with the G26 in a heart beat, the thing is a tack driver!

I finally got mine (9mm)....should have it next week! I kept an eye on GunBroker and finally found a buy-it-now that was under $600. I would have rather paid under $500, but for the time I was spending trying to find one, well....time is money. My FFL is also my range, so I will bring along some ammo and run her dirty. A Remora holster and XS Big Dots are already on order. Can hardly wait!

The Kahr trigger is long but very smooth, like a quality revolver. I found it to be much more smooth then any new M&P trigger I've found and I like the M&P. Also the price comment is quite entertaining. I paid $368 for my Kahr CM40 new. Many of you on this board are paying $550 for a gun that has an MSRP of $449!! Now that is funny. The G26 is twice as wide as the Kahr pistols. Glock should wise up and make a single stack slim 9mm and 40 pistol. They would sell like hot cakes.
