anybody know if you can buy a 9mm coversion barrel for the 40? I have seen where the stock 9 will fit in the 40, but im a bit hesitant to do that. i would rather do it the right way.

Your inner voice serves you well... Absolutely get a conversion barrel for safety's sake. Both KKM & Storm Lake makes excellent 40 to 9 conversion barrels for both the full size & compact models. You can find them at Brownell's & Midway USA. ( among other places )

I saw this over in the S&W Forum M&P9 Shield Barrel

Not sure how safe it is, but they are doing it.

I know that you can get conversion barrels from Midway and Brownells, not sure if they have one for the Shield yet though.

Yeah...Not sure thats a great idea. There is a thread here on the forum about the same thing. Might want to do a search and give it a read before you make up your mind. Just sayin'....

You've got some nutcase telling you to lie to S&W, because they'll tell you how dangerous this is if you don't lie (then cancel your order) then he wants you to grind off parts of your barrel, and that everything will be OK? Is this how we normally discern good advice from total B.S.?

I checked out your website...
i`m sorry but $205 bucks for a standard shield barrel is not a price i want to pay.

Thanks for posting your website address anyway...
it might do some good for others... just not me though.

Makes more sense to just buy another gun for $299-319 when Palmetto State Armory has a sale than to spend $219 on a barrel. Buying the second gun is exactly what I did 2 days ago because it was a smarter option.

We are trying to introduce a more affordable line that would be a plain ss 9mm barrel, and will allow for TiN and DLC coating options. I know the price may seem high, but upstart costs are just so expensive!

I haven't got a ton of experience with the subject matter or anything - but my friend who is a S&W armorer says that; apart from the engravings on the slide, the barrel and the magazine - there is NO discernible difference in the parts of the .40 and the 9mm.

Though he says common logic dictates that you can only convert down, just in case there is SOME sort of invisible indiscernible difference in material strength etc.

He even demonstrated how the .40 magazines load and feed 9mm ammunition just fine.

I've never seen anyone use a custom conversion barrel - I've seen someone use a stock barrel 9mm in a shield 40 and it worked flawlessly.

There wasn't any extra gaps or any problem fitting it in - in fact, it was pretty difficult to tell the two barrels apart.

Has anyone actually had any problems using the stock 9mm barrel for a conversion?

__

Anyway, the TruePrecision barrels look pretty sweet - are they ONLY going to fit in the Cali-Version of the shield, or are you guys saying they need extra work TO fit the Cali-Version?

200 dollars is almost as much as I paid for my brand new Shield40, so it is way too much to spend on something new on the market without any reviews.

Does anyone have a review video or a written review by an accredited person?
