Front sight removal???

So after reading a number of posts about real tight rear sights I come to find out my rear sight will remove relatively easy but the front sight doesnt want to budge.
Am pushing towards the ejection port.

Am using an MGW sight pusher. This worked fine on my fullsize when I changed my sights.

Any ideas???

Freeze the slide for 4 hours, deep freese is best, and leave the sight tool on there (tight)

Is S&W making the front sights/dovetail cuts on the Shields to tighter tolerances than other M&P pistols??

Can of duster air upside down, drip liquid on the sight only to deep freeze it.

Afternoon Michael

I have run into similar very tight sights on some S&W's as well as Kahr & one of my Sigs.

First thing I try is gently heating the slide with a small heat gun, then once warm put a drop or two of penetrating oil on the sight to slide dovetail joint. I then let that sit & cool overnight.

Next day I try moving the sight again. If still no-go I re-heat the slide & try again.

If still no-go I usually cut the sight with either a hack saw or a Dremel with a small disk in it (after taping the slide area around the sight) . I cut it cross wise just short of the bottom. That usually instantly releases the sight tension & they come right out.

Stock front sight is cheap but the slide isn't, so cutting the sight seems the least of two evils. (I'm usually not going to re install the stock anyhow so why try to save it at the risk of marring the slide)

OK so my Pro dot set came in today.

Had to slightly modify my universal sight pusher to get my front sight off.
Lightly stoned the new Pro dot front and got it centered well.

Then went to put the rear on. Was a bit suprised as it slide right on all the way with little resistance. So figured to put a slight, not even a drop, of blue loctite on the left side of the dovetail.

Overall looks very nice.
However, as this is my wife's pistol, will have to have her shoot it and see if she likes the 2-dot setup. Otherwise will order the 2-dot rear to replace this 1-dot.
