How do you carry your Shield? I opt for appendix carry with a Crossbreed Appendix Holster. Incredibly comfortable and the gun disappears under a T-shirt!
OWB Fobus. Can rotate it 360 degrees. Carried at 4-5 o'clock. In the spring and summer I use a pocket holster (rear). I like the winter carry much better!
Thanks for all the input. Didn't take much effort at all, to get the retention loosened up to a comfortable one hand draw, but still keeping good retention. I can turn the holster upside down and shake it and the gun stays put.
Now for the comfort part.......and I sure hope it happens soon!
Leather can take a while depending on the process and manufacture .
Don't feel bad I've got a few well made/name leather holsters in a box that broke me in and gave up on lol .
Since yours broke in pretty fast as far as gun fitment it should break in faster .
That's one thing about full leather holsters it takes a lot of love and patients for them to break in and get comfortable . I only get all Kydex now or Kydex leather combo for that reason .
I don't know y'all. Using the same 1&1/4 belt I use with my Bulldog pancake on the new Predator. Around 4 hours each night, and it still is no more comfortable than the first night. One more week (if I hold out that long), and it will go up for sale on this site. So far, the Bulldog holds it just as well, and it 10 times more comfortable.
My Winthrop broke in a lot faster than the Predatorr because it was thinner leather. Also began loosing retention and had the mouth start to collapse after i drew the gun. I had a cheap pair of ski boats that were as comfortable as bedroom slippers. No support and i skied like crap, but they were sure comfortable! Don't know what analogy I'm trying to make but i'm sure there is one in theire somewhere. Just curious, if your Bullfrog is COmfortable and has good retention, what made you start shopping?
Has good retention, and comfortable. Collapses completely on draw and the muzzle is open which leaves the last inch or so of the gun exposed to rub against seat belts, etc. Now I know its gonna show wear (it already has a little).....but I try to take care of my stuff, and the muzzle hanging out bugs me a little.
I'm picking up what you are putting down about the boots, and leather quality, and I am grateful for the input.
My belt is 1&1/4", but pretty dang rigid. Do you think a belt of 1&1/2" would honestly make a difference???
I think a 1 1/2" belt could make a difference but how much is hard to say also keep in mind new belts even Quality belts need break in from my experience anyway . My CrossBreed 1 1/2"gun belt is very comfortable but was stiff at first and took a month or so to get comfortable . There Hybrid SuperTuck IWB holsters are comfy from the get go though and just get better . What happen I found from braking in holsters is were ever it's hitting like your hip or any other part of your body will get tender and takes time to heal so your holster could be breaking in but it doesn't feel like it because your body hasn't healed yet and it's hitting those same spots . Sometimes you just need to break it in a little and put it a way for a week or so and then go threw the ritual again .
As I mentioned before breaking in all leather holsters has to be a labor of love .
Well my Kestrel FDE carbon fiber holster is still in the Proccesing status probably have another business day before shipping on there 7 business day lead time . I'm hoping it'll ship Monday or Tuesday . The good news though my FoxX Hybrid IWB in Forest Camo has been shipped and should have it early next week 😎
With jeans I wear one of Wright's Bull hide belts, 1 1/2" x 1/4". With shorts I wear it on a Wilderness Instructor belt which is very close to the same measurements. I would not go thicker than 1/4" on any belt. I think a belt that is 1 1/2" will help hold the holster in place.
What position are you wearing the holster? I wear mine around 3:30 -4:00 with complete comfort. The curve of the holster fits there perfectly for me. I don't remember any break in period. The new one I just got for my 640 fits the same. If you are wearing it at 5:00-6:00, I can see where it would be uncomfortable.

Same here, except closer to 4:00-4:30 because of where the belt loops on my jeans are. It seems to fit between my seatbelt clip and seat when I drive at that position as well (although I usually remove the gun and put it in a holster wedged between my seat and center console when driving). I could see where 3:00 could be pretty uncomfortable as well. I remember working the loops with my hand to make them more pliable to bend around the hip bone better. I wouldn't give up quite yet but I'm sure you won't have much difficulty selling it if you do!
Had it on about 9 hours straight today, and I am ready to burn it! But I will give it a fair chance. I wear it around 3:30. I have figured out the part causing the discomfort. If the gun were a 9c, it would be the rail part where you can attach a flashlight, etc. That rascal is digging into my hip like you would not believe. I would think it would be worse in my Bulldog hoster, since that part of the gun is exposed in that holster.
Try wearing a thicker undershirt and or thick flannel . Take advantage of winter for some more cushion while your holster is breaking you in , I meant breaking your holster in 😛.
Seriously it might help during the break in period .
Naw man some holsters can be painful , I've had few that took skin off my hip until it was raw . It was a full size Springfield XDM 45 and the combo of a heavy gun and holster that didn't sit right with my build was a no go .
Two different kind of holsters, first is a Voodoo tactical fanny pack. with a Crossbreed belly band modular holster Modular Systems
It comes with Velcro on the back, it can be moved from the belly band to car mount, to bed mount, anywhere you can mount a velcro pad. I added the fanny pack mount.
My Black Label OWB and FoxX Rustic IWB with comfort pad .
For my M&P Pro Series 9 with Apex duty/Carry enhancement Kit . Love this Pro 9 because I'm just a average shot but man I can shoot the eye out of snake with this baby 😎 She's a keeper !
It could just be the photos but it looks like it might be a bit loose and leaning out from your body??? Does it hurt at the bottom of the holster? If it is leaning away from your body you might try tightening your belt another notch. It looks like you are wearing it close to the same placement as I wear mine.
Ya they'll load like that sometimes . Well it looks comfortable and it is a sharp holster , are you breaking in yet lol ?
My FoxX IWB hybrid should be arriving today with my Kestrel to follow within the next few days 😎
Ya you might of shaved some skin off your hip giving you more room lol
Seriously once your hip heals up it sounds like your holster is going to work out and get comfy 👍
Yeah. I could see how wearing at 3:00 would be uncomfortble. Especially sitting. I wear at 4:30 ish so only the front loop conforms around my hip, not the whole holster. I got pretty boney hips though.
On those pants, it usually rides just a little farther towards the 3:30 position due to belt loop placement. Either I am getting used to it, or it is breaking in. When I got it, it was nearly lying flat (as a pancake). Get it??? Now it has a lot more curve to it.
Jay......note the "tool shed" over that belt at the 12:00 position. .......tightening another notch ain't likely at the current time! However, I am down 60 pounds, with another 30 to go......so eventually. ......
Interesting shot from above. I did one so you can see the curve in mine. OK on not being able to tightening the belt. I sure hope it shapes up for you soon, they are great holsters.
Note mine has curved in more, but I have been wearing it over a year. However, I do not remember a lot of discomfort when I first starting wearing it.
Yeah, that's why I got mine. The Winthrop broke in more quickly because it was thinner leather. The mouth would also collapse after you drew it making one handed holstering difficult. The mouth still won't collapse on this unless I sit down and the chair/carseat presses it closed.
So my Holster from FoxX I was suppose to get yesterday is in Columbia SC thanks to USPS "I'm in Oregon lol" so it'll be a while . I contacted FoxX holsters last night and they emailed me back first thing this morning . Great communication but was hoping it was a typo possibly wrong tracking # .
So then my Kestrel holster a shipping label was made and notified by PayPal it shipped Saturday . But it was never dropped off yet ugggghh ! Contacted Kestrel same time as FoxX but no reply yet .
Man I think this bad fitting holster thread has jinxed me lol !
In all my years I've never had any holster issues with any orders and now I'm hit with two back to back 😩
