So I just picked up my brand new 9mm Shield (test fire date mid July 2014). I disassembled it for cleaning when something on the slide caught my attention. If you look along the left side of the slide's center rail, you can see wavy-like machining. The material here appears EXTREMELY thin and if you look carefully you can actually see the plastic white striker guide through a crack in the material.
What shape is your Ejector in? I'm guessing you're getting some interference there.
Looks like the CNC cutter was out of adjustment or damaged, which leads me to wonder what other slide surfaces are out of spec. I'd definitely contact S&W and see about sending it back for a replacement.
Thanks for all the responses. S&W sent me a shipping label and I will be sending it back to them tomorrow. Even if they replace the entire gun I won't be able to get my hands on it until some extended waiting and extra money spent on background check fees due to asinine CA gun laws
That's definitely gun Ebola. I'd call the CDC and quartette the gun. And, for god sakes, don't fire that thing. Anything you're liable to shoot is likely to contract the disease with a 90% mortality rate.

That's comforting: "yeah, that doesn't look right, but send it out anyway, we shot it once and it didn't blow up. Just make sure you send the spent shell to prove it fires!" :no
No. It is not normal. Nor is it acceptable. Frankly, I don't understand the brand loyalty apologists (whatever the brand). When something ain't right.....it ain't right. Period.
Glad to see they are going to take care of it. I'm sure they can weld that up. J/K. You will get a new slide at minimum. Hopefully some free mags too.
Please keep us posted.
