Hi, New Shield owner here. Just wanted to know what people had to say about Froglube. I just took my new Shield out of the box and before I use anything on it, I wanted to get some feedback from people using Froglube on how to clean and use it.

Thanks in advance.

I have put over 1500 rounds through my shield. My shield 40 shows no wear inside or from holster. The shield runs very smooth with the froglube. I live in south Texas and I think it is great on a newer semiautomatic weapon. I hope this might help. Enjoy your shield its a great pistol.

I researched it a bunch and hear just about all good reports about it. But, I've cleaned the many guns I've had the same way for 46 years and have no problems doing it that way. I guess I'm a purist at heart and like Dad used to say, "if it's not broke don't fix it."

Theres a Froglube thread on just about every forum I'm on. Numerous Froglube threads at that. I've heard a lot of good and I've heard not to bother with it. IIRC, from what I read, its great on handguns, use something else on your ARs. I personally dont put too much money in to the lubes, nor am I completely sold on the "gun specific lube" marketing. I spend more money on ammo and just pick up a quality cleaner. I use hoppes gun grease on the contact points and a drop synthetic 5w-30 on the rails.

I use it on all my guns and love it! Very impressed with how well it cleaned up my Mosin Nagant. However my favorite use for it is my bolt on my AR, works wonders! Just make sure you take the time and apply it correctly and you won't be dissapointed! Works great on my M&P and Glock as well. My glock has 1,200 plus rounds through it, 100 of them being lead reloads, and it looks like its brand new.

i had used frog lube some time cause of how everyone was praising it.. i had bought a BCM ar15 upper to put on my lower i had, i used frog lube has instructed and when the rifle was sitting for a few weeks without use, the BCG would be Gummed up. i stripped all the frog lube off the rifle and used the sample of Slip2000 that came with my upper couldn't be happier with slip.

Thumbs up on frog lube; using it on an M&P 40c and Sig p226 and it's been flawless. Shortens the clean up time significantly. I also just finished up a new AR build with all parts frogged before assembly and the first 100 rounds cycled without a hiccup. If you do it right the first time it won't let you down. The upfront time with a couple of applications is well worth it.

I'm beginning to see complaints about Frog Lube gumming up guns, effectively locking them up, and warnings not to use it on any self defense guns.

I've seen multiple threads on other forums within the last couple of days, and several of the replies are saying they have had a similar experience. Personally, I don't use it so I don't have any personal experience to say yes or no.

I heard this too, but it was with guns sitting in storage which were then taken out and shot. I had my Socom 16 stored with this and it was really gummy when i took it out to the range. Once it was shot and the gun heated up the gumminess went away. I could see how this might be a problem with a self defense gun but all of mine have held up well and I have not seen it get gummy.

If i remember correctly the rifle was only in the safe for about 3 months.

AND first clean ALL the storage lube off (or any lube on your intended weapon first). You need clean bare metal before you start on any weapon. If you follow all the instructions to the "letter" you shouldn't have any problems. I've been using it on my weapons for a couple years and haven't had any issues with it. The AR's and handguns I use it on still clean up a lot easier that ones I haven't used it on yet.

I almost decided to try this stuff and researched it a lot. I started seeing several reports that after an extended period of time there are gumming issues. I certainly can't confirm this but nothing wrong with how I maintain my guns so I decided to pass although I know this stuff is extremely popular

I treat all metal with Eezox and use it as a light oil for its excellent rust preventative properties.

I use Shooters Choice or Wilson Ultimate Gun Grease on the rails so it stays there.

I'm using Eezox also for rust protection, I've seen numerous tests over the years where it protected best against rust. My commonly used cleaners are Ballistol or CLP, I prefer Ballistol for cleaning and use CLP for lubrication, for blued steel guns the outside gets Eezox for protection. Sometimes a little grease on high stress items.

I use it on all of my guns and have used it in my Shield from new and it works flawlessly. People who say it gummed up there guns didn't apply it properly. When you treat it correctly there is nothing left on the firearm. It looks dry with a sheen to it. You don't leave a layer on like grease.

I've been using it in a couple of my M&Ps for a little while now, I'm reluctant to use it in all my guns yet. I always feel as if there is not enough lubrication, but after shooting it you can clearly see it seeping out of the metal. I've had zero problems with it since switching, plus my wife enjoys not smelling the Hoppes. Lol

As far as gumming up goes, I've had zero issues as well. As a matter of fact I took my shield to an indoor range one afternoon when it was raining just to put rounds through it to see how the frog lube would hold up. After every two magazines I would pull off the slide and check the rails to see how much it was seeping out and gunking up. After doing that a few times the range officer came over and asked if my pistol was giving me problems to which I explained why I was checking it so often, then he started checking it with me every time. I was using a mix of WWB and new Freedomunition in 9mm, bit pretty dirty stuff compared to other brands I use as well. We're both amazed at how it didn't seem to be all gunked up after 200 rounds of each brand, we were very impressed to say the least.

The cleaning is very easy, it seems easier after every cleaning as well. I don't know if it really saves anytime cleaning like some claim, but all the residue seems to come off with out a problem. Plus, the smell is pretty good and doesn't linger around like Hoppes or Breakfree, although I don't mind the chemical smell personally.

I'm using it on a few of my pistols with good results. I have too many other lubes to use up to convert them all. One thing that I have noticed with the Frog Lubed guns is that the barrel seems to lead up less and it's easier to clean the lead out. The powder residue does wipe off nice and easy too.

when applied correctly Froglube is phenomenal! Think of it as seasoning a iron skillet. I've run in the rain, dry south texas heat etc etc zero issues. Best part is taking a bore snake running it through the barrel - clean as a whistle ... wipe everything else down... done.

Terrible product after a few days it turns into a sticky gum and smells like burnt grease.
I try to contact FL several times and they offer me a new bottle that I never receive.
They claim that they change the formula and new formula now is fine but I never tried it.
Terrible CS.
I bought a new bottle at my local Bass Pro (liquid stuff) and is too liquid and it will go everywhere, it's a mess!
Never tried again.

Moved to Seal1 CLP paste, great stuff and it works!
