Direct answer to why I purchased? Size and price.

I have a Colt "Mark IV" Series 80 .380 and really like the size and weight of it and planned on using it as EDC, my son in law kept telling me I needed a 9MM for stopping power. Wanted me to look at a CZ, I felt it was too large, I'd rather carry my 39-2. It has been a long while since I purchased a new gun and needed to divest myself of a couple other smaller caliber pieces to free up some cash. My favorite local shop took 2 pieces on consignment and sold them for me. In the meantime I had looked at several of the big box stores at possible EDC pieces, the XD Mod 2 was a real possibility but I didn't like the thickness for conceal purposes, each time I kept gravitating back the the Shield.
When my favorite local place had called me to tell me they had sold the second piece I had left on consignment I went down and ordered ( had to fill out IL papers and wait a few days anyway) the 9MM Shield. I actually was able to sell both pieces, buy the shield and pocket some cash.

I've only put about 100 through the gun thus far, I seriously hope the trigger wears in a bit. I notice a very distinct notch when squeezing the trigger on the first round when a new mag is inserted and the gun racked.

the shield absorbs recoil really well for a small gun

Well because glocks are ugly and I hate the grip angle.
XDs was not a comfortable choice either too "bulky" feeling
Picked a shield and fell in love with the way it "fit"
Knew I did not want to ride the "9" train so I picked up a 40 and when I shot it the love grew.
Then S&W in there infinite wisdom released the 45 and I fell in there trap.

Couldnt have made better and wouldnt change the choice.

A couple of months ago I picked up a Shield 45. Felt better in the hand than my Shield 9 and noticed improved trigger and grip plus we are partial to 45's.

I have a Shield 9 here that's not actually in our carry rotation but our Shield 45 is in our carry rotation. It has a noticeably better trigger with improved trigger break over our Shield 9 plus we shoot tighter groups at 10 yards with this pistol. Also like the more aggressive grips.

Caught one on sale for $299 brand new in box locally and couldn't resist. At that price, I figured I could sell it later and come out ahead. Ended up liking it so much, I hung on to it and added it to the carry rotation.

I was looking for a single stack for CCW, and I wanted three things - thumb safety, no magazine disconnect, and under $500. That narrowed it down to two, then I got a chance to shoot the XDS. I didn't really like the way it shot, so that left the Shield.

Feel in hand, trigger, and about half as much as the Kimber Solo I held that day. Its a little gun that I can shoot nearly as accurately as full size guns. Even in .40, the recoil isn't ridiculous.

I used to carry my P239 back in the day - 15 years ago. I recently got back into firearms and got my CCW again. The Shield carries the same amount or rounds and is much lighter than my P239. I passed my P239 down to my oldest son and never looked back.

Been shooting off and on since my teen years but never purchased firearm. I would shot with family and/or friends. Analyzing the situation of the elections and the real and most likely having a president that was going to tighten the ability to purchase a firearm/s; I began looking into purchasing a firearm and getting my Concealed Weapons License (CWL). Thank God that Presidential Candidate was NOT elected.

After months of research, It was down to the 9mm M&P Shield and the Glock 43. I ended up purchasing the Shield for two main reasons. 1) I could buy the shield with a safety lock. Very important feature since I have young kids. I know that is not the only safety measure to secure the firearm, but it doesn't hurt to have that feature. 2) The price point. I could not justify paying $150-$200 more for a firearm that was not any better than the Shield. In most cases the comparison articles, reviews, videos...etc. had the Shield as the winner.

I had let my cc license expire, and sold my handgun. Moved to a different part of town, and got custody of my granddaughter, so I knew it was time to start carrying again. Went to local gun range and tried many different handguns, and loved the shield, the way it shot, how easy to control and get back on target, so bought one, and got my cc license back. Ordered a HYVE that gives me two more rounds, so now have a highly concealable pistol with 10 rounds in magazine and one in the pipe....could not be happier with it....
