Wonder what the velocity drop is from non-ported to ported?

Probably around 10fps. I tested 4 shields 2 with porting an 2 without porting, saw around a 10fps difference on the chronograph. Surely not enough loss to worry about.
Waiting now, for my 45 PC shield to arrive, then i`ll test an post what i find. I like to test at least 10 different ammo`s just to get a baseline.

Probably just covering their health insurance cost increases

PaPow,

That sounds too good to be true! I would have guessed 50fps on the low end. I guess the smaller port size has a lot to do with it.

Alot will depend on the load used. These PC ports aren`t radical by any means.
They`re hardly noticeable on the 9mm shields between ported an non ported.

Thanks Rick... hardest part will be the waiting...lol.
My supplier has a hard enough time just gettin smith guns as it is.
But for the deals he gives to me, its plenty worth the wait.

PaPow,

Did you have a post detailing your previous testing of ported vs standard? I'd be interested in the details of your findings.

This is new information to me. I may sell my 10086 and get a ported model if they release it without a safety, or maybe even with the safety it still might be worth looking into before I alter the internals of mine.

I'm interested in the Federal HST's, particularly the 147's.

I'd like to see the results of your PC 45 test as well. Very interesting how they can alter recoil significantly, yet, alter velocity insignificantly. Cool stuff.

People who own ported guns should really go to the range, and stand next to someone who has a ported firearm. I am sure that after that, they won't feel the need to own one. If 9mm or above makes you want a ported gun , maybe you should get a nice bb gun. Waste of money. If you can't hit anything before that, you won't be able to hit anything after that either. What is it these days??????????? Everyone under 50 yrs. old is a girly man????????????

With the .45 acp being a low pressure round you will probably see much less benefit from the ported .45 than you will a 9mm or .40

Cole,
no, i dont put any critical data on the forums anymore, i just describe in short words about my own opinion and findings. My findings wont be the same for everybody, to many variables involved. (kinda like no two people shoot the same gun the same way). To many people on the forums want to judge you for what you put in it, so i no longer put charts or graphs with detailed data on the internet/forums anymore. No two people will ever agree with your data because no two peoples tests are identically performed in the exact same way. One person will do it one way, the other person will do it another way, then a 3rd person will come in here and tell you your both wrong and THEIR way is the only way to do things. So i keep the critical data to my self to keep forums from becoming a hot spot on how when why i got my data. Basically, i`m just giving my opinions at this point. I`m very happy to share my small findings with everyone, but thats about it. I`m just a very old man that loves to shoot, and share along the way on my opinion of what i see, along the journey.

As for selling your gun, i wouldn`t. I would keep what you got and just upgrade it. Any standard shield can be upgraded to even become better than the PC shield models. But if you had just bought the PC shield to begin with, thats half the battle. Your actually a little bit ahead of the game at that point. As for the porting, its nothing to lose money over just to trade up...its not worth the loss. If i could find a standard barrels for all of my PC`s, i would remove the ported barrels all together. Internally ported guns CAN get super dirty inside, if using garbage mass produced ammo, or if you shoot ALOT like i do. I dont care for all the shit getting into the internals of the gun with these internally ported guns. A ported revolver exits gases outside of the gun, semi-auto`s do not, UNLESS, the porting is OUTSIDE of the slide (extended ported barrel).

The Safety:
You do know that you can modify the safety inactive, without removing the lever, right...??? I dont recommend it, but it can be done, BUT you bring unwanted risks and consequences. Break the gun down, grind the safety tab shorter so the trigger will go into full pull. The safety lever will still be in the gun, it just wont do anything. It will still click when you move it up and down, it just wont be able to reach the trigger bar to stop the full pull, thus eliminating the safety all together. I`ve seen some guys just remove the lever from the gun, but thats just ridiculous to me because then you end up with this big hole in the frame where the safety lever use to be. Supposedly, there is a plug you can buy to plug up the hole after removing the safety. I never really looked into it. Now, the thing that concerns me, having a gun that looks to have a safety, but does NOT function... what if someone picks that gun up thinking its in safe mode, then accidentally pulls the trigger... hmmmmmmm, not a good result comes from that. Thats why i ALWAYS say, LEAVE IT ALONE, ITS THERE FOR A REASON.

Federal HST Ammo:
In the 9mm, stay with the 124gr standard pressure. The +P stuff should only be used in bigger guns with metal frames. And also in my opinion, leave the 147gr for the 4inch and longer barreled guns as well. I`ll just leave it at that.

PC45:
i hope to see the 45PC`s soon... i had my LGS order 2 of them for me... i will surely put my opinion of it in here after i shoot them. I will do tests of them from the first shot, as well as how they perform after break in. My tests will be with a ransom rest and free hand, all measured from 7yds out to 25yds. I might have to call Hickok45 and stop by the compound and try to wack his 80yd gong a few times...lol. Maybe i might ask him to do a video of them too... he`s a very busy guy, so dont hold your breath...lol.

Ignore his comments, he`s obviously been misinformed about M&P PC ported guns.
