New Shield 9 with saefty, slide lock wont release

Just bought my 4th Shield. First 3 all no safety, never a single problem with any. (2 9's, and 45). I wanted a 9 with safety for specific spot, got it today. When slide locked back, it wont release unless i remove the magazine. With magazine out, relases as I would expect. Any suggestions? Thanks!

Not unusual with new stiff magazine springs. Grasp rear of slide and pull then release slide (commonly called slingshotting). I have several pistols that I cannot release slide with the slide lock lever with an empty mag in place.

Racking the slide when it's locked back applies a slight downward force to the slide lock lever to get it out of the way. The mag follower (after last round or if there is no round) exerts an upward force.

Even if this never goes away, it is not a bad thing, unless it comes from some defect in the slide stop that makes it unable to fall if the mag is not there.

Your gun is designed to feed a round out of the top of the mag - any other trick to do so beats up the extractor.

All is well.

Its not supposed to release WITH AN EMPTY MAG installed.
Sounds to me from your description that you have a normal functioning SW shield 9mm.

When you have shot a magazine empty the magazine follower is pushing the slide stop up so it will catch the slide and hold open when empty. Once you insert a fresh magazine the follower is pushed down so it won't contact the slide stop, you can then power rack the slide and it will chamber a round.

I still don't think you understand what I am saying here.

If you have a full mag... Shoot the 7 rounds... After shooting the 7th round, shouldn't the slide then lock in the OPEN position to tell you that its empty???

Yes and that is not happening. Which could be the result of limp wristing or the type of ammo used.

Correct again... i would grip the gun tighter, and try some 124gr ammo.

My bad. Mis read what you typed.
Sounds like you may be bumping/depressing the mag release enough to move it a bit but not release it.
Limp wristing is the common term.
That gun should shoot 115gr 9mm ammo all day wo issue.
If it was an Ammo issue Id expect to se FTF and or FTE issues as well.
