Yeah i dont get why its such a big deal to some people. I couldn`t care less about the empty case in the box when the gun came to me new.

It was only Massachusetts that required it but they just did it to all of their handguns. Once they stopped the requirement then S&W stopped doing it. Answer came straight from S&W when I contacted them on Facebook. The date that is on the label now is 6 digits like on mine. 012417. January 24 2017. Easy peasy
