Hello (and holster)

Thanks for having me ladies and gents. I've owned two M&P Shields, and neither have ever disappointed me. I've had the 9 and the .45 . I recently actually just got the .45 to replace the 9 that I had (unfortunately, it was stolen during a home invasion (which myself and my roommate were not home, but all's well now). Actually just qual'd on the .45 for a NC CCW, so now I'm just waiting on that.

Today, I ended up purchasing a Blackhawk! CQC holster (made for what says "S&W M&P Shield"), not realizing that it did not fit my .45 . I could not test it out, only because I purchased the holster on-base (military bases do not allow firearms, unless you are transporting them). Not realizing that the .45 is JUST slightly larger than the 9 and .40, I made a mistake. I could return the holster, but I also noticed that holsters with the button release must be very far and few between for the .45 models. I've only been able to find holsters without the safety.

With all of that being said, is it possible to just heat up the plastic and allow it to expand to the firearm? I can fit it inside, but it is very tight, and requires some good old fashioned elbow grease to release it, so I can't see why it would be impossible to expand the plastic just slightly to better fit the weapon.

If this would be possible, what would be a good way to do it?

Welcome aboard! I don't think that kind of plastic is as easy to form as is the Kydex that is so widely used by holster makers. I'd return it rather than risk ruining it. You might take a look at the Safariland GLS series holsters, it has a retention device that is released by your middle finger as you grip your pistol.

Welcome to the forum from Maine!

Yeah, I'd return it. Don't take the chance that it will work out OK.
