I just spoke with Apex, they have had requests for a barrel for the Shield, but they have nothing planned at this time so no ETA.

Also, they have no idea when or if they will be taking work in for service again. At this time they only do warranty work. My impression was they aren't interested in general work. I think they probably have a better ROI on the parts than on the service. They recommend AETI for gunsmithing work.

Last time i spoke with Randy couple weeks ago (owner of apex), he told me they WILL be building shield barrels when they get caught up. I suspect it wont happen this year by the way he sounded.

As for them working on customer guns for people, i can see why they want to walk away from it. They lose alot of time dealing with hack jobs that other gunshops and basement bandits have worked on and screwed them up... then they expect APEX Co to make magic happen. Trust me when i say... I know the feeling, been there an done it. Nothing worse than to waste your time trying to make cherry pie out of horse poop. Not to mention the liability that comes along with working on other peoples guns...it just isnt worth it.
