Thumb Safety Sear Housing

I just purchased an M&P Vtac 9mm and I would like to add the thumb safety since I have learned to really like it on my 9c.
Does anyone have a thump safety sear housing block they would be willing to sell or trade me? I want to trade my non thumb safety no MS no IL large plunger sear housing for your thumb safety no MS no IL large plunger sear housing. I can add some money to the trade even.

Please email me at bs68280@gmail.com

The VTAC comes with the universal block that is used for both. You only need the safety lever, spring, and cam to make it work.

Do you know where I can get the spring and cam? Anyone have those parts I can buy?

I keep getting mixed information about whether I can just add those parts or not. I can't find a video or anything on how to remove or install the spring and cam.

Well that was simple. Someone sent me the safety, spring and cam. About three minutes later I was all set.

I called S&W and told them I lost mine. They are sending me a new spring and cam. You can do the same or I will send you mine when they get here. You can email me.

I too want to piggy back on this slightly dated thread.

I need two sets of the spring and plunger, one for a VTAC and one for a pro. Is asking S&W for these parts the best course of action?

Is there any issue regarding requesting these parts and not owning a thumb safety model? What I have read about this issue is that S&W is not interested in supporting this modification.

Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.

VTAC can accept the safety lever, because it was designed specifically for that option. I haven't heard of a Pro being capable of accepting one because they're more for competition.

I'm certain that I can install the parts if I had them on both the VTAC and the 9L. Hilton Yam posted a photo on his facebook page of both a 9L and a VTAC with thumb safeties.

The problem is obtaining the spring and the plunger/cam/detent plate--whatever it is called. S&W restricts these parts to factory customer service or M&P armorers. Since, my pistols were not factory TS models, then customer service is no help, and I don't know an M&P armorer to order these parts for me.

Anyone have a solution?

The 9L does not have the thumb safety cutouts in the frame, if Yam had a TS 9L he either cut the frame or put the 9L slide assembly onto a frame with the TS already installed. So much for certainty...

Just a couple comments:
  • Your original question was about the Pro, not the 9L (those are 2 distinct models).
  • 5" M&P with manual safety is not available from S&W, only a frame swap will get you there. It's also possible S&W might provide one for Hilton, but I doubt it.
P.S. Yours is not an original post, other have tried and failed to install a manual safety in a non-safety frame, and there are no gunsmiths offering this service.

Look, I'm sure my post deficit spells ignorance to you guys, but spare me. I have done my homework. And pardon the semantic confusion between 9L and 5" Pro. Both of my pistols have the frame cutouts. I am certain this swap can be done with the appropriate parts.

From the people that I have spoken to directly, including Hilton Yam and Jon Shadwick from Apex, as well everything that I have read, I only need the thumb safety, spring and plunger/cam/detent plate. The last two parts are restricted by S&W to factory installation, which they won't do on a non-TS pistol, or to a certified armorer.

The only solution that I have come up with, besides a sear housing block swap, is to contact an M&P armorer who can obtain these parts.

I've never seen a 5" M&P be it the 9L, Pro Series or 40L with the frame cutouts for the thumb safety.

Show me the serial number of a M&P 5" on the OEM documentation or sales receipt and the same serial number on the frame of that M&P that has TS cutouts and I'll believe it.

Don't at me because I don't agree with unsubstantiated conjecture from a guy who claims to have talked to some guy.

I am not interested in wasting my time proving anything to you. I am interested in a solution to my problem. You are not providing one. You have proven yourself consistently unhelpful.

Seems if you could post a picture someone mite help you. That would be more appropriate than reporting the post.

I reported a consistently unhelpful and rude member of this forum. I have read some of his other posts, and it does not appear to be a localized behavior.

My inquiry is very straight forward. I am asking for a solution to the difficulty in obtaining the spring and plunger to convert my pistol to a thumb safety model.

I do not need to post a picture, and I do not need the response from the village troll that I received.
