Any suggestions on a good belt for EDC?

Ares Gear Ranger Belt here. I ordered from Larue Tactical and took about 4 weeks to get it but so worth it. Very stiff, so it supports my FS 9 and spare mags with little effort. Very comfortable and relatively easy to put on. The only downside is the price and the wait. I used to run a Wilderness Instructor 5-stitch, and that belt was also very comfortable, although it didn't support the weight as well as the Ranger Belt.

I started my CHL/EDC a little over two years ago and I'm still using my Crossbreed gun belt almost exclusively. It's a hearty leather belt, but it is starting to loose its shape a bit. It still functions well for the most part, but its drawback is that you're limited to the notches of a traditional belt for (non)precision sizing.

I picked up a Wilderness 5-stitch shortly after the Crossbreed to give the Instructor style belt a try. I like it for its reduced bulk compared to the thick leather of the Crossbreed, but I am not a fan of the way the buckle works with the belt coming back and securing with Velcro. Undoing the belt is a PITA for me because I have stuff attached to it where the belt feeds back and Velcros on itself. That being said, you can get an exact fit without relying on the notches of a leather belt. YMMV here, but I prefer the traditional buckle style, or the Cobra buckle on my Ranger belt.

A big +1 for the Ares Ranger belt! I've had mine for about a year but haven't incorporated it as an EDC belt. I use it for range trips and special occasions but for now am sparing it the wear and tear of EDC and the late nights at the machine shop. With the Cobra buckle you can fine tune the fit AND have a quick release far superior to the Instructor and traditional belt buckles.

I need a "dress" belt for my EDC and went with RGLeather (local to me but will ship).
Been going strong for two years and still very stiff.

Welcome To RG Leather
My belt looks just like the black one with white stitching.

+1 on the Bullhide belt. Quarter inch thick one piece leather. No joke. Look online and they have dozens of choices of finish, color buckles and even materials other than leather such as elephant or shark and others.
Hated my Bladetech belt as the plastic sandwiched inbetween 2 layers broke up into several pieces after just 5 weeks of easy use.

I'll definitely give you a '+1' on tyhr bullhide belt. I needed a dress belt and the thing works awesome. Worth the price of admission IMO.

I have two gun belts> I have a solid one piece 1/4" x 1 1/2" bull hide made by Wright Leather Works for $49, that I wear with jeans. Great quality and workmanship.

For shorts, I wear a Wilderness Instructors 5 switch belt. It functions as well as the leather belt and very adjustable. Looks good with cargo shorts too.

Just a couple comments...

The Wilderness belts have a few different levels of stiffness. I love the belts but I find the average life expectancy of the 5 stich is about a year before it loses too much of it's rigidity. For this reason I would recommend the model that has the plastic insert.

Cobra Belts...A good Cobra belt is awesome but most belts that have a cobra buckle on them will not fit easily through most belt loops. The buckles are usually intended to be removed in order to weave them through belt loops. Some folks find this an inconvenience to deal with on a daily basis. And you may also find it easier to set your belt and gun up BEFORE putting your pants on.

If you want a heavy duty cobra belt to repel out of helicopters and stuff, here's a good one (and somebody already posted a link for SOE which are good too):

Yes. These as well...

Just stay away from 5.11. Cheaply made and unravel at the velcro liner area.

I like the Ares gear ranger belt, which I think is a quality edc accessory. Larue tactical has them in stock ready to ship. For me a determination when making my purchase is quality of product and availability. When it comes to my toys, I revert to being 8yrs old again and I want it yesterday
