I took my new compact out today for the first time. I tried a half dozen different types of ammunition but haven't found the sweet spot yet - even Mini-Mags didn't group particularly well. Everything functioned well, so I'm hoping it's just a matter of finding the right ammunition.
I'm pretty sure it's not me because I was grouping well with two other guns today.
How's your Compact's accuracy? What ammunition does it prefer?
I haven't tried a rest, but I am used to light guns - I'm fairly sure it wasn't me. I'm not worried yet, it's just a matter of breaking it in and finding out what load it prefers. The Mini-Mags I was shooting today were 36g, I usually have better luck with 40g but can't find them right now.
Actually, the majority of what I have shot through this so far is standard velocity CCI, 40gr LRN (1078fps, I think) and they have been quite accurate, albeit withoutNy real testing for accuracy.
I actually almost pulled off a Gibson-esque smiley face the last time out, at 5 yards range.
Have you tried examining the adjustable sights? Maybe they are not centered.
It's not a point of aim issue, it's group size. I was shooting at 50 feet, the best groups I was seeing were about 3" and the worst about 8". I did end up having to drift my front sight over, it wasn't centered and was causing me to crank the rear over far enough to partially obscure the rear dot on one side. No biggie, just a part of setting up a new gun.
I'll keep playing around with different ammunition, I haven't been able to find my preferred 40g Mini-Mags - the ones I was trying yesterday were 36g.
For those that have the Compact, have you tinkered with removing the mag safety or external safety yet? i took both of those off my M&P22 and will want to do the same with my compact when it arrives from PSA
