Smith & Wesson® Introduces M&P® Pistol Threaded Barrel Models

Suppressor Ready Performance Center® Ported and Standard C.O.R.E. Pistol Now Available

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – Smith & Wesson Corp. today announced that it is adding greater versatility to its premier line of M&P pistols by offering two new versions of the M&P with an additional threaded barrel included in the box. The new 9mm variants, which include the Performance Center M&P Ported and the Performance Center M&P C.O.R.E. (Competition Optics Ready Equipment), allow owners the ability to easily attach a sound suppressor of his or her choice without the use of additional tools.

At the foundation of the new M&P Performance Center Ported and Performance Center M&P C.O.R.E. pistol resides a specialized mounting platform on top of the slide that can be conveniently changed to match the desired optic. Five removable brackets allow the user to simply install the corresponding mounting screws to achieve the precise fit and height required. Designed to work in conjunction with the Trijicon RMR®, C-More STS, Leupold® DeltaPoint™, Docter, Insight® MRDS™ and J-Point™, both M&P models offer quick and custom sight installation for the industry's most popular aftermarket red-dot sight manufacturers.

Engineered as a true competition platform, each firearm model retains original design features including a polymer frame with a through-hardened stainless steel slide and barrel, ambidextrous operating controls, striker-fired action and a durable, corrosion resistant finish. For improved handling, both the M&P Performance Center Ported and Performance Center M&P C.O.R.E. feature a new textured interchangeable back strap with prominent stippling. Three patented palmswell grips are supplied with each pistol, providing shooters the ability to tailor the grip size to their personal preference.

The M&P Performance Center Ported pistol and Performance Center M&P C.O.R.E. are each standard with a Performance Center sear, providing improved accuracy and precise shot placement by way of the enhanced trigger design. The M&P Performance Center Ported pistol has been further enhanced with a factory ported barrel and slide as well as a user-adjustable trigger stop. Both new M&P models feature a 4.25-inch barrel along with higher sights on top of the slide that can be used in conjunction with the mounted optic.

The additional threaded barrel included with both pistols brings an added retail value of $175 and feature a thread pattern of ½"-28-2A. The two 9mm pistols are standard with a 17+1 round capacity and are shipped complete with two magazines.

Mine could use better feeling or adjustable grips. I wouldn't change anything else. Maybe make it a bit smoother at the bore end of the slide so that its easier to re-holster.

No more news of M&P Gen2?

I would love to see a grip system like the HK p30/vp series pistols.

I'd also like the pistol to come with a deeper cut under the trigger guard and radius that area as well to smooth it out. I did mine with a Dremel. I love it.

Maybe make the slide a little more slender?

I love love my M&P's as is though. I have three and love them all equally. I will soon add an M&P10 to the family as well.

If it is a trigger improvement on par with that of a Apex upgrade, then I will be ecstatic. I wont care if they are coming out with a model with a modular frame as long as they keep the present M&P lines in production. I did ungodly amounts of research before investing in M&Ps as I feel based only on real world data that the M&P is the equal of the Glock in terms of reliability, and accuracy as well as FOR ME better ergonomics.

M&P is likely second only to Glock in at least the Civilian Polymer pistol market.

How about, modular, lower bore axis, better trigger, a common slide for 9/40/357 so you can do a barrel swap without a conversion barrel. Yes I know, many people use a standard 9 barrel in a 40 slide.

I was reading on a thread some time ago with someone that spoke with a representative and they spoke about if you like "modularity" you'll like it. I'm assuming it's going to be like the modular Sigs...

I would love to see a new model that is sized more closely with the G19.
Something in between the full size and the Compact.(maybe a touch smaller than the G19)
A better trigger, a deeper cut under the trigger guard and a better texture on the grip itself with better sights...out of the box.
It amazes me that a company doesn't pay attention to the fact that a majority of their products buyers immediately go out and buy all of this stuff and have it installed.
This stuff should be addressed at the company reviews. Otherwise Smith and Wesson will lose their market share to another company that is paying attention to this stuff.
It's almost like the M&P line out of the box is a "base" model, that knowingly needs after market updates to make it "premium".
I know my next purchase is not going to be a S&W, now that Sig has a Mass legal P320C , that's whos is getting my money.
Striker fire handguns are "the rage" now Smith and Wesson .....pay attention
