Spare Parts

I managed to get a striker assy for both my M&P 9C and 45FS from Smith and Wesson as well as a recoil spring assy for each. They gave me one of the recoil/guide rod assys and compared to Midway, they about gave me the strikers and 9C recoil/guide rod assy. What other parts should be acquired that wear out or can break under normal usage. Thanks for the suggestions.

If I were collecting spare parts it would be:

- extractor
- firing pin
- barrel
- recoil assembly
- various fire control group springs

I did think about the extractor and various springs. How many rounds would you expect out of a 9C or 45FS barrel?

That I cannot answer. I do not shoot enough and have never shot enough to find out how long a barrel lasts. Depends a lot on ammo used and cleaning regimen I am pretty sure. I suspect it is in the tens of thousands if cared for properly.

Other parts though, extractors, springs etc, can and will fatigue/fail at faster rates. Magazine springs last a long time but do occasionally fail. If you can't feed it its no good even if in perfect condition otherwise.

I don't shoot a ton like some but I do go through 1100 9mm and 900-1000 45 ACP a year. Been a few years now, so I'm only at around 3000 through each at this point. I just want to have the parts so in the event of a failure I can swap them out and be on my way, don't want to have to send my CCW weapon back to the factory for who knows how long.
