New M&P's? - M&P M2.0

This is a discussion on New M&P's? - M&P M2.0 within the MP Talk forums, part of the Smith & Wesson MP Forum category; I'll take one in 10mm and one in .45ACP... Actually I thought there would be more excitement here about the new generation of M&Ps......

Well the garbage that S&W has been turning out of their plant, is reason enough for people not to get excited.
Every M&P i`ve ever bought had to have severe work done to it to make it work good.
Not to mention what i had to spend to get good aftermarket parts for them.

If the new compact feels like a G19 size I will be real tempted to sell my old RMR'ed compact and get one of these new ones. I have always thought the G19 was about the ideal size for everyday CCW. I do like the M&P beavertail, a Glock always cuts up the web of my hand unless I use the add on beavertail.

Hard to get too excited about a picture on the internet. For me, I would need to see it in person and get a feel for it, might be great, and might not from a picture.

Interesting. I like the slide scallops at the ejection port. Can't figure out the little windows at the front of the dust cover unless they have something to do with making the cover look less like it bends downward. Slide release? Extended or what?
All in all I'd have been happier if I just knew they put in Apex barrels and maybe striker block and or sear, and that was all instead of what I see. Not that the 5 inch doesn't look nice.

So does anyone know if these will use the same mags that are out now?

I`ll take the guess that it would be yes. Why would they re-tool for different mags when they already have decent mags.
(with exception to the shield 9mm 7 round - spring issues)

That would be my guess as well. The only reason to change the mags would be to sell more mags if a present owner buys a 2.0 version. But just as many owners, or more, would flip them the bird and just not buy a 2.0 . I know I wouldn't but a 2.0 if they changed the mags and as it is now I'm like to have a spare M&P, maybe 2 more. I have a small fortune invested in M&P mags now and I won't put that amount of $ into more mags yet again.

I am STOKED but I have so many questions! (which S&W will probably answer at SHOT Show 2017)

1. How modular are these Gen 2s going to be? Will I be able to swap out barrels and magazines to shoot a different caliber like I do with the Gen 1s?

2. Are these going to be generally compatible with the duty/carry accessories I already own for my Gen 1, i.e. holsters?

3. Is the improved trigger going to be on par with Apex upgrades?

4. Are Gen 1 magazines going to be backwards compatible?

5. Does this mean Gen 1 pistol prices go down? (Just in case I decide to just get a clone and not go Gen 2)

Your barrel might work, might not. I`m betting they changed alotta stuff internally...the M&P`s NEEDED updating badly.
I believe the mags will interchange...but i`ve been wrong before. Guess we`ll find out soon enough.

If you go to the Smith and Wesson website right now, they have the 2.0 on there with videos talking about them.
