Proper vocabulary

I have taken notice of some of the vocabulary used to describe firearm.
Some call it a pistol some call it a gun, some call it a weapon.
My point is simple when I was teaching hunter safety we were taught to use proper terminology when speaking to or within the public. Example: we did not kill a deer we harvested a deer much like you would harvest your garden.
If we stop using the word "Weapon" and replace it with gun, pistol or side arm we may in some small way change public opinion. The thought train is this your gun does not become a weapon until you choose to pick it up with intent.

What do you think?

I agree with you, proper teminology is a must. f it's a semi auto it can be a pistol (from the original word pistole), a revolver is just that, and both are handguns or as already mentioned a firearm. I never use the word weapon unless I'm in a state of war.

Another way to sway people is to call anti gunners as human rights violators or HR thieves. Other phrases would be rape enablers, crime enablers, etc'. Do I think that's too harsh? Absolutely not.

It wont make a bit of difference. You could call it fuzzy unicorn rainbow finder and the antis will still hate it...

That being said, I still try to reference by the proper terminology not so much to win hearts and minds, but to avoid confusion. (clip vs mag, assault weapon vs assault rifle, pistol vs revolver, etc.).

I think a gun is a weapon. Nothing wrong with owning weapons for hunting, protection, or just plain ole fun. Also, using euphemisms like "harvesting" instead of "killing" is just ridiculous. Everyone knows we're not talking about picking apples or corn. It also reminds me of what the SS Reichsführer Himmler said about the people in those camps. He never said gas or murder. He used terms like "liquidate" or "special handling".

Some NRA classes i have attended have a money jar and if you say "weapon" you have to put $5.00 into the jar. Most recent an RSO course.

People calling mags "clips" bugs the hell out of me. I use to correct people, but then then realized nobody cared and just ignored me. Calling bullets "shells".....dont get me started...

Edit: Handgun or firearm works for me, weapon seems more military, but any will suffice.

Nimrodcs, of course bullets shouldn't be called shells, they're projectiles.

One that bugs me is when someone says "the second amendment gives us the right to bear arms". That is sooooo wrong...and usually it's someone arguing in favor of gun rights.

There is no word you can use that will change the public perception in those who simply hate or fear people possessing firearms. The only thing that will do that is educating people to understand firearms and realize that murder is in a person's heart, not what is on their hip.

Pick your poison, its all the same at any angle you look at it.
But POLITICAL CORRECTNESS divides them all.
A square is a square, a circle is a circle... it is what it is.

Can we move on now...????

I find it very odd, that liberals wanted to remove segregation, but yet they want all this political correction that divides things up... they`re nothing more than just a bunch of hippiecrits, do as i say, not as i do. Its no wonder why our country is all fugged up.

What use to be a joke, is now considered a threat these days. You cant say or do anything anymore without some thin skinned snowflake complaining and stomping their feet like a little 2yr old. This country was founded for a reason... to get away from the liberals in europe... problem is, some dumb moron let them in this country, now we`re just another poisoned country just like europe.

I hope an astroid hits this planet, that would give them something different to think about, instead of worrying about stupid sh*t. I wont even go there in what i think is stupid in this country today... dosent take a rocket scientist to figure that out, in what needs to be fixed, and how to fix it.
