Yeah; "36 thousandths" is a lot to remove. Basically, equivalent to a spark plug gap back in the old days before electronic ignitions.

Center rail on the slide would be the section with the serrations correct? Would like to see pics as well before and after if possible.
That is the only "center rail" on the slide.

So i measured my center push rail height: (the rail that pushes the case from the mag into the chamber)
I measured the height at the right side of the center rail which is flat down inside of the slide. The narrower & deeper milled area on the left side of center rail was harder to measure from, so i took my measurement from the same side as the striker block.

0.225 (closest to breech)
0.205 (closest to rear)

As you can see, mine shows taper from front to rear. (.020)
Some manufacturers put a taper in this area, some dont... S&W M&P apparently does, so i wonder if MarshIsland just had his milled flat front to rear or had the taper milled back into it. I highly doubt they put the taper back in it. (putting the taper back into it would be very easy to do on a milling machine... if i were to do it, i would put even more taper into it to keep the rail from dragging on the next round in the mag)

Now MarshIsland says they milled .036 from the center rail, makes me wonder how much is actually catching the next round to strip it from the mag during cycling. Seems to work fine for him, but i would still like to see it. I`m surely not going to doubt that it could of been the problem, because if it wasn`t milled off enough from the factory, and being to deep going into the top of the mag, 1) it would make a mag harder to seat, 2) could possibly cause it not to cycle properly.

I guess we`ll have to wait for MarshIsland to come back and answer.

I would try flushing out the striker channel with some Gun Scrubber or non-chlorinated brake cleaner from Walmart. Do not oil the striker or the striker channel. It needs to stay clean and dry.

Or the striker nylon sleeve may be breaking into pieces like mine did and lodging in the channel causing the striker not to go full travel.
