New 9 Shield Owner in Texas

My name is Hilman. I'm 58 and a Calibration Engineer. I live in Texas and I'm the proud new owner of a M&P9 Shield FDE. The slide lock is very hard to depress, but I'm sure that will loosen up in time. I shot a few rounds from my nephew's Shield and had to get one for myself. I'm long time married and my wife and I are getting ready to take the LTC class in a few weeks.

Thank you for the forum and I'm looking forward to learning all about this wonderful weapon.

Welcome!

To release the slide you pull it to the rear and let it go forward, you noticed how hard it is to release the slide lock, it isn't designed to function as a release, just a lock.

The owner's manual tells you to pull the slide to the rear to release it.

Welcome Hilman..!!! This is a GREAT forum, alot of great people and information here.

Yes, the lever WILL loosen up eventually, but i myself dont recommend using it to release the slide. Theres no law saying you can`t, but why put yourself thru something that you dont need to. Just use the slingshot method, you`ll be happier. Just a tip for you as a new shield owner...spray your recoil spring assembly with dri-lube too. Its helped these shields in a big way by making them easier to rack.
