What are the chances S&W makes an M2.0 version of the Shield? I think they eventually will so keep it up to par with the standard M&P line. But I would imagine that would be at least another year out. Thoughts? Rumors? Discuss!

Well being that the SHIELD was designed and intended to be a CC weapon I personally dont want or think SW will "grow" the pistol in size. Already have the FS and Compact lines so why muddy up another line.

The shield is a great gun as is and does what it was designed do well (conceal) if you want fatter grip interchangeable BS and larger gun go to a FS or Compact model.

Hopefully SW doesnot F up a pretty much perfect pistol for the job it is intended to do.

MY 02 YMMV.

My guess would be, they will take the other shields and change to the shield 45 texture, and possibly front serrations, which I believe the M2.0 is. Whether they will call it 2.0 or just continue as the shield with a different texture who knows.

My reasoning is that, the shield 45 was directly before the M2.0, so I can't imagine it getting a makeover anytime soon...and if it only has the different texture...seems like the other shields will follow suit.

M2.0 didn't add interchangeable palmswells...the predecessor had them. Given the the predecessor had them and the shield does not, I would think they wouldn't add them to the shield...just keep it smallish. They kept pricing on the M2.0 inline with the predecessor, and adding palmswells I would think would have to increase the price of the shield.

I get what your saying steve, and i do agree for the most part of it... BUT, if S&W really listens to their customer base, they might just do it to say they have a new shiny penny to sell you. Price means nothing if you want something bad enough. I would have no problem paying a little more for something if its going to fit me better.

I have no idea, an if I did I'd be out buying the winning lottery ticket rather than talking to you :) But it can be fun to speculate and BS about it.

I see a couple of other problems...at what point is the grip getting wide enough that it's close to the 9C... I think it's only about 1/4" now. and once you approach 9c width, why not just make a double stack and add the capacity, which they already have in the 9c. I think if I were going to direct the design team, and I wanted interchangeable sizing, I'd do longer and shorter, to adjust distance to the trigger, and leave the width alone.

But I still don't see it happening...although I'd be happy to be wrong.. :)

M2.0 Mag help

Hi all, new to S&W, and guns for that matter. Never owned a gun, used them in military though. Question: I live in Cali (I know, big collective groan), and I am receiving a "gift" from a parent in Tenn of a S&W M&P 40 M2.0. Problem is, they only sell them with 15rd mags. Cali has 10rd mag limit. I need to know if the 10rd mag for the M&P 40 1.0 version will work with the M2.0? I have read some forums that say yes, S&W dance around their direct answers and will not commit to an answer. Does anyone have any insight into this? Thanks

I would think (and prefer) they would eventually upgrade the other Shield lines to be similar to the new Shield 45 and M2.0 line. It will probably be a rolling change as they deplete the stock of existing materials from the "older" versions, then eventually they will all be like the Shield 45. Below are the main changes to the M2.0 line that may also be extended to other Shield lines (9mm and 40) similar to the Shield 45:

•Extended, redesigned chassis
•Front cocking serrations
•New aggressive grip texture/stippling
•Armornite® Durable Corrosion Resistant Finish
•Slide will not release when slamming in a new mag (this happened with the regular M&P line but not sure if the same happened to the Shields)

Thoughts??

Lastly,

Shieldnewbie, not sure if you are new to online forums but your question has nothing to do with the subject of this thread. Create a new thread instead of hijacking this one. You'll get a much better response rate.

New to the forum and to the Shield. From all the lurking and researching I've been doing, it seems that most owners are upgrading their triggers and/or sights on their Shields. I know that S&W has their Perf Center line with those upgrades already done. But it seems the consensus with quite a few folks is that with the price difference, they really aren't too keen on the porting for an EDC, and that the APEX upgrade may be better? So it would seem that S&W might listen to their customers and provide an intermediate upgrade (M2.0 or whatever they want to call it), that is priced between the standard Shield and the PC, that would offer an upgraded trigger and reset ala the M2.0 upgrade, and maybe some sight options at different price breaks. Of course, they will most likely come out with that right after I put down my money on the present offerings. Thoughts?

I doubt it but, maybe they'll make the grips more like the 45 acp shield... As far as a 4" sheild, I had a 4" XDS, it was cool but, wound up selling it and buying the shield because the role of that gun in my arsenal was/is deep concealment not comfortable shooting & high levels of accuracy .... I don't really feel like I shot the XDS any better than the shield...

I am blissfully happy with the Shield just the way it is. I wear a large glove so i guess that means I have average size hands & I like smaller grips on guns. I have never liked double stack mag grips. One of the few good feeling double stacks is the Ruger SR9C. It is thin for a double stack.

With Talon grips on the Shield, it is perfect . Maybe that is why I always liked a 1911, because for a big gun it's grips are thin. I just don't much like a single action gun. I always liked a DA or now a striker fired gun. That's just me, but I have been shooting since the 1940's. I am not a great shot, but I sure do like guns. Been carrying a gun since a Texan cap gun in the 1930's.

I'm a lefty and prefer the mag release where it is. Being left handed when I dump the mag I have to tilt it to the right so I use my middle finger on my left hand to release the mag. Using my thumb on my left hand would cause me to tilt it to the left meaning harder to insert the new mag.
JMO

The slide stop? If it doesn't have the notch cut in the frame on the left side it most likely will not release the slide. (Issue with the new 2.0)

Texture? I got to shoot the new M&P 2.0 and it is way too aggressive to conceal and by the time we finished I was wearing gloves.

I'd like to see them do the frame on the Shield 9/40 like they did on the Shield .45

Really the gun is fine just like it is. So, Don't fix what's not broke.

Which I feel they did with the new 2.0

There isn't enough width on the Shield for the 2.0 fire control mechanism so I don't expect big changes there. Also there is no need for the 9/40 Shields to have a new updated frame and chassis. The 45 Shield has changes in that area only because of the need to accomodate the larger 45 cartridge. Better site options and stippling would be nice and the PC sear and rounded edge PC striker block ought to be standard on all M&Ps including the Shield. The PC Shield has a beautiful trigger but there are only so many people who want to have a ported short barrel Shield.

Dont let the porting scare you... it isnt near as bad as most people make it out to be. I bet if half the people that shot the ported shield, they`d give up the standard shield in a heartbeat to own a PC shield. The ports are very small, no worries. Gone are the days of those old ported guns that were flame throwers. Not to mention, todays ammo is cleaner and better burning powders, and are far above what we use to shoot years ago. Todays ported guns get a bad rap because of the old days of flame throwers. If powder flash worries people, then why do people still carry alot of concealed revolvers out there today... talk about flame throwers... wow.

The one ported 9 shield a guy let me put a mag through at the range was a nice shooter. It did have a tad less fecoil than unported version (only shot 40/45 shields) but didn't make me want to run out and get ported versions.
Id rather learn to control the recoil as one should not compensate for it in one gun. Which IMO would effect all your shooting. That is unless one has already trained ones self to properly control the recoil of a handgun.

They didn't have PC ported Shields when I bought mine or I might have picked one up for the better trigger and sites with the porting as frosting on the cake. That said, I'll be putting the trigger in my standard 9 mm Shield to lighten up the pull just a bit but not too light. My buddy's trigger is just right on his PC Shield. So is mine except I want to knock a pound or two off the pull weight to get it into the 4 1/2 to 5 1/2 lb range.

Yankee,

Yep, thats where i was at when i bought my first shield, the PC had not been released yet. I knew it was coming but got tired of waiting for it to be released from S&W, so i bought the standard 9mm to play with until the PC came out. I can tell you this, it was worth the wait... its an awesome little gun.

Thats about where my trigger is at on my PC9...4-1/2lbs now. My PC started out around 5 to 5-1/2 pounds when i got it, but i can`t leave well enough alone...lol. It is leaps and bounds way better than my other standard shield triggers, night & day better... i think you already found that out when you tried your buddy`s PC shield. VERY smooth crisp trigger, reset is spot on, with audible click. I did adjust the trigger loop a tiny bit upward to take out a touch of trigger pre-travel. If you do this, be VERY cautious not to raise it to far.

If i were you, i would just do the trigger job on your standard and stay with that... i would install the apex sear... that will get you exactly what your looking for. I would keep the OEM trigger spring in the gun. Next, i would round off the blocker plunger and polish it once you`ve file, stoned it, to a more rounded dome shape. This helps the trigger pull tremendously. It will be far smoother thru the full trigger travel. Make sure you clean any roughing out of the blocker bore. Another option is buying the apex plunger... it works great... its cheap enough too. I installed the apex plungers in my other shields...they work awesome.

Unless you really think you need PERFORMANCE CENTER to be stamped on the slide... and the ported slide, the standard shield can become as sweet as the PC shield, without the ported barrel. The ported barrel, i dont think its really needed. It dirtys up the inside of the gun a bit. I wipe a film of vaseline in the slide when i shoot it on my gun range alot. This makes it easier to clean the slide after a days worth of shooting. The residue wont stick to the slide when you wipe some vaseline in it, but it wont protect the internal components from powder residue. Therfore i`m not a fan of internal porting, and never will be.

The sights on the PC, they are ok, you can surely see better with them over the regular white 3 dot OEM sights, but there are far better sights out there to buy than what the PC`s come with. The XS BigDot sights are a very nice choice.

Bumping this thread up again. I'm wondering that with the new rebate program S&W has going on currently, if they're doing it to try to sell as many Shields as possible before releasing an updated M2.0 line for 9mm/40. Rebate goes through June 30, 2017 so we might not see an updated m2.0 version until mid summer. Thoughts?

No need to quote my entire message. Just reply that you agree. I hate that half the people in this forum quote someone's entire message then respond with a short one or two sentence reply. 90% of the time it's not needed. I mean your post quoting me is literally directly under my original post. Is it really necessary to have the same thing repeated twice one after the other?

No offense but this is so overused around here. :)

^^^LOOK OUT, WE GOT A BADASS HERE^^^

Seriously though I don't know why everyone loves to overuse the quote function. The post is literally directly above the quoted reply yet people still hit that quote button :lol:

#58 · (Edited)
Because it takes any question about whom someone is responding to.

Also, as far as it being right below the other...you never know if that will end up that way or does someone type faster and then it's not

I'm not a BADASS, but I can't imagine Chuck Norris, whining on a forum because someone quoted him LOL

Bottom line, take it easy, what difference does it make?

Damn, never knew it was that bad. But tbh I guess I'm not surprised.

Oh yeah and for this guy:
...what difference does it make?
I guess I owe you a reply as to what difference it makes when people excessively and unnecessarily use the quote function:

My point was there is no reason to take up more space by quoting someone's entire message when the context of your reply makes it known exactly what you are referring to. Especially when you are quoting someone whose exact same long ass string of text is directly above your post. I hate trying to read a thread and every reply has people quoting the entire message of something a couple posts above it. I don't need to re-read someone's reply 6 times because people keep quoting it on the same page<<< Lmao.
It takes up unnecessary screen space and is annoying to scroll past. Plus these forums are free to us, and as a mod on other forums we like to keep server space from being used unnecessarily. I get it if the thread is 10 pages long and you are quoting someone from page 3, but when it's all still on the same page, especially the post directly above your reply...come on anyone with a 3rd grade+ reading comprehension knows what your reply is in reference to. But I also understand that the quote features on online forums are overused by, let's just say, the more experienced generations :stuart:
