I replaced the front sight on my M&P9c with a Dawson fiber optic and it helps me get on target faster, when shooting IDPA. I have a green FO in it, but wonder how the red or amber would work? What do most of you who have them prefer, red, green or amber?

Does varying amounts of color blindness affect choices?

I noticed over a period of time that at night when walking outside down the block toward the stop light that when the green light came on, it lit up the night much brighter than the when the red or yellow light was illuminated. I wondered why so I started doing a little research. Turns out that the green light is not brighter than the others, but that we have more green receptors in our eyes, if I understand the situation. Therefore we see green better--it looks brighter. I have the green sight in my gun and have always loved it, so I never tried any others.

I started with red fiber then tried green and never looked back again. Green is good.

I would suggest that you try both before purchasing either. While working with target archers several years ago we discovered that the population was split about 50-50 on red and green. Almost without exception, the one the shooter liked the best yeilded the better scores. Also, try both under different lighting conditions and you will generally find your preferance will change with the light. Good luck in you quest.

Green is good till you go stomping around in the woods, then it blends into other green. Red stands out better in that case.

It costs all of $4.xx for 3 ft of any coler rod you wish. Install a sight of any color then try the various colors till you are satisfied. Some sights vome with 2 or 3 colors.

Red FO front sight seems to stand out more in lower light (outdoor covered range), green seems to pick up more light and become brighter in full sunlight. Red is still bright outdoors, just doesn't seem to get any brighter like the green does. I shoot a JG with the red front, my wife shoots a Pro with the green front, and I've recently bought and shoot a Smith 1911 Pro Series with red FO all around. I've tried a limited gun with amber rear, red front and like it better than the same color all around.

Just my opinion, I'm in the process of trying different color combos of FO sights.

The new Trijicon HD has a large yellow front sight. I think this will be my prefured set up if and when I can get a pair.I have long wanted Yellow front sight but always had to go green with yellow for rear. Red to me does not add enough contrast from rear green dots. Maybe with yellow but have not tried that set up yet. How about a pink front sight?

I have a newer Browning Buckmark with the green front and like it. I really did like that JG with the red front though. Like TOF said if you can buy a 5 Fluorescent Pack, then you can mix and match. Looking on this page I am saving as a bookmark, I like the multi-pack idea. Just have to do more reading on the sizes, would be great if I could use the same size for my future M&P and my Buckmark.

I think having different color fiber optics would be the best, green front and orange back...

I had the full Dawson treatment, front (red) and back (adjustable). What I like best is the thinness of the front sight. The target does not seem to hide behind the FO anymore. I've not tried the green but sounds interesting.

My Warren/Sevnigy came with both red and green; I picked the red simply because for me it seemed brighter than the green when I was going to install it.

I run Tru-Glo TFO (tritium fiber optic) sights with the green front and yellow rear dots. Works very well for me. I have bad astigmatism and the thre greens just don't show plainly enough for me. Don't know how well the red front would work. For me it a contrast thing so it would probably be ok either way as long as the colors are different.

WOW 3 Ft. at a time?.......I must be cheap !!!! I buy 6" and that's enough for a LONG time.

BTW I agree; Green works best for me.

I had green in my factory Pro sight, and tried red, when I switched to Dawsons. The red stands out MUCH better with a grass background, and it's all the same with a dirt background.

So I choose red.
