Hard call, of a sort.

I voted M&P 40 since the .40 S&W has been generally replacing the 9mm, and I don't mind the felt recoil , controllability and recoil management of the .40 S&W as a duty cartridge. Also, the M&P standard frame was designed first as a .40 and then revised to be a 9mm, so it ought to be a fine, serviceable platform for the .40 S&W.

I don't mind the .40 as a duty cartridge, either, although I carried one or another 9mm duty weapon for many years and have no complaints with it, especially when loaded with one of the better, modern designed hollowpoint loads.

That said, if I were going to be given the option of choosing a .45 to carry ... or a M&P, for that matter ... it would be a M&P 45. No question.

I Would take the 9fs. But that's just a personal preference.

I would probably choose the M&P Fullsize 45 which is not on the list, but I am not in law enforcement. If I could carry a full size weapon of any type on a daily basis on a heavy duty belt system, then the choice would be a full size double stack weapon in 45acp..

I am curious where the carry version of the P220 comes into play on that list and why you limited it to only 3 choices. If I wanted to carry a full size gun on a duty belt, I would probably choose the full size Sig P220 instead of the R version.

This is pushing "caliber wars" about as far as it can go.

I do carry the full size P220. The R stands for rail.

The reason for the 3 on my list is this. I already carry the P220 in .45

I love the M&P, but don't want another .45, so that leaves the two remaining options.

I put the 220 on the poll list to see how you guys rate it. That's all.

During my time, I have carried on duty speaking, here goes:

S&W 5904 9mm (piece of junk issued gun)

Beretta 92FS 9mm

Glock 21 .45

Glock 22 .40

Sig P220 .45

In that order.

About a new platform every 3 yrs.

Can I change my answer?

On "patrol", I'll carry a M-4 style AR-15, with an EoTech optic.

The pistol on my hip would be relatively irrelevant, but for this poll, I'll stay with the FS-9 M&P.

For the poll a FS9 M&P.

"Patrol", depending on area patroled it'd be an 870 Tac.

you have a viable point, regarding critical incidents. But, most of my every day encounters do not involve pulling out the rifle or SG. ie car, ped, bike stops or alarms and family disturbances.

To me, the handgun is my primary defensive firearm since that's all I'll have on me in most my situations away from car.
