Trying to decide?

Have my mind set on a 308 semi-automatic rifle in a couple of months. My two choices are the DSA FN FAL or a Springfield Armory M1-A. Input would be welcome.

I don't own either one, but if I had a choice I would choose the M1-A. Sorry I'm providing and evidence for support, just giving an opinion.

I own neither weapon but have shot both. With the current political climate and potential UN Treaty, I would probably stick with the Springfield. A very good friend of mine has a FAL and it is a hog slayer. I own a Rock River Arms Elite Operator in 308 that I am very happy with. I also own a Sig 716 that I love. I have seen New Sig's on Gunbroker selling for around $2,200.00. I haven't kept up with the Rock Rivers. The Rock River's use FN Fal Magazines. The Sig's use Magpuls'. Both Weapons shoot really well. The Rock River is a DI gun and the Sig is a Piston Gun. I shoot the Sig more just because it is easier to clean.

I'm a little nostalgic and would go for the M1-A. I really like the SOCOM.

socom !

Got a socom, and I'm very pleased with it ! People in the M1a arena say it's not accurate ? I don't understand that , compared to the 22" barrel yes but @ 200 yrd. w/iron sites 2" to 21/2" groups I think that's pretty go ! maybe it's the shooter maybe it's the gun , but that's what I got ..

Don't worry about it; just put him on your "ignore list."

I haven't seen any of his posts for a few days now.

You can't go wrong with either of those. I have an FAL L1A1 variant that I absolutely LOVE. I think the FAL would be better for getting your optics close to the bore making for better cheek weld with out adding a stock riser or completely swapping to an aftermarket stock like the Sage EBR which is going to add weight and expense to your rifle.
Screw it you should get both and be done with it

I kind of favor the M1A and seen what a "shooter" can do with it. Both are nice. You might give a thought to the Colt 901-16S (DI) or Ruger and SR762 (piston). I have both and am VERY happy with them. Both are great shooters. Both also use the same Magpul mags. The 901 is Monolithic and comes with a mag adaptor so you can switch (just about any) mil-spec upper and also shoot a 5.56 upper on it's lower.
