My Gal is Great!

Today is my birthday and I have to say that I have one of the greatest gals alive. Back during the Presidential primaries and just before my birthday last year, Obama made a statement that nobody needed an AK 47 during one of the debates. I popped of and said "I am going to have an AK 47 just because he says that I don't need one!". On my birthday a few days later, she shows up with a very nice AK 47 and 1000 rounds of ammo. She had contacted my Gunsmith and he ordered it for her.

Anyway, I have been looking for a good M-1 Garand for the last several months and have bid on several on Gunbroker.com to no avail. I have a hard time justifying spending several hundred to a few thousand dollars on a rifle that used to cost $200.00-$500.00 just a few years ago. My bid limit over the last few months has been $1,200.00 and I have bid on a few less than stellar WW II Garands at that price. My gunsmith also knew pretty much what I was looking for and was keeping his eye out for me at Gunshows, etc.

Well friends and neighbors, this morning when I got up there was an elongated box wrapped real nicely on the Breakfast room table. I ate my "Happy Birthday Breakfast" and when I opened the box, there set an all matching Springfield Armory WW II Garand. There was a smaller box that contained 250 rounds of M2 Ball Ammo and 8 Enbloc Clips. The rifle is in great shape with a ME-1 and a TE of -2. There are the usual handling marks on the stock but no cracks and all of the cartouches are there and are proper, no pitting in the receiver, rifle bore is clean and shiny, etc. etc.

When I asked her how she got it, she informed me that she contacted my gunsmith and he got one of his collector buddies to start looking for one also. My gunsmith and his collector buddy had been shopping for the rifle in total secrecy during the last several months. They found my Birthday Rifle about a month ago at a Houston Gun Show and went over it tooth and nail (very through inspection). They called her and told her that they had found a very nice rifle and recommended that she buy it. She wouldn't tell me what she paid for it, but I can assure you it was probably much more than I would have ever spent on one.

I salute great gals who love guns and such, and especially ones that put in as much effort as she, my gunsmith and my soon to be new M-1 Aficianado buddy for all of their effort. It just don't get no better than that!

Congratulations!! You have a hell of a woman there.

However you now have a problem. How are you going to reciprocate something of that magnitude for her birthday...?

Thanks! Generally when I buy a rifle, it means 2 rifles lol! For instance, her AR is an LMT CQB MRP Piston Rifle topped with an Eotech Exps-3.0 with a G33 magnifier (kind of like my first Shield...she took my first one away from me the first day that we ever shot it lol!). She also has some other of her very own pistols that I have bought for her in various calibers, not to mention the shotguns. Ol' Calvin over still Red's Range in Austin laughs every time that I buy a new gun, hearing protection, accessories, etc. He always jokes and says that he only has one in stock and claims that I buy 2 of everything...one for her and one for me lol! When I got my LMT she was with me and wanted her own, so, we bought 2 and waited months for them lol! I am just lucky that we have a common interest. She belongs to a couple of women's pistol leagues and probably gets more range time in than I do...Go figure lol!

She likes both and has plenty of both. See my reply above lol! I really appreciated all of the trouble that she went to to find the M1.

I suggest you combine the two. Take her on a long weekend where she can have a total spa day combined with say a fun day tactical shooting or some other similar activity or perhaps trying her hand at long range shooting if she is interested.

Pretty Close

My son is a sergeant in the U.S. Army. When he returned from deployment to Afghanistan, his wife had a nice welcome home present for him: A Kimber Raptor II .45 ACP pistol!! Up to that point she had been scared to death of guns. In fact, she had the salesman carry the pistol out and place it in the trunk of the car. She wouldn't ever touch the box!!

Raptor II.JPG

For his next birthday, in May, she bought him a 12 Ga over-under tactical shotgun. Now she not only touches his guns, she shoots the hell out of them!! I have a video of her from "G.I. Jane Day", where soldiers bring their wives to work! She is working out on "Ma Deuce", the Browning M2 .50 caliber heavy machine gun!! She went through 2 belts of ammo!! That's 400 rounds @ $2.00 per bullet!!

My wife is terrified of my guns and wants nothing to do with them. She has never bought me a gun and probably never will. I told her that as far as she is concerned, they are ALL loaded. That way I know she will not touch them! Wish she was more like my daughter-in-law!!

That rocks...congrats to you. The gift is great, but having a wife that knows and loves you so well is simply awesome!
