Gentlemen (and ladies if you're out there),

I am thinking of buying a tactical shotgun. I would prefer a semi auto and found a Mossy 930 SPX for a decent price. Any suggestions or input regarding the 930 or an other semi-auto shotgun would be great.

Thanks,

I would personally go for a Remington 870 Police or a Mossberg 590 A1 if looking at tactical shotguns. Some of the FN shotguns look nice but i dont know much about them(even less than the others mentioned).

For HD or "SHTF" i would prefer a quality AR.

Saiga is in my list too. Everything I hear from folks who have shot them is very positive.

My first choice is a proven warhorse. You can pick up a used or new-old-stock Benelli M1 Super 90 off Gunbroker for ~$750. That's the gold standard for semiautomatic shoguns. Ultra reliable, ultra fast cycling with a light recoil and easy to clean. It's one of the few shotguns that can be doubletapped like a handgun. If you can't swing that then I'd consider the Mossy.

Just about any semi-auto or pump shotgun is going to get the job done, unless it's made in Liberia or Nigeria. :-)

JD is super helpfull & honest about upgrades & accessories. He builds all his guns Rem 870 & 1100 w/police style extractors & follower dogs. You can find some of his stuff on Gunbroker.com but he will customize any weapon to suit.

I got a left handed 870 w/Special Ops telescoping stock, Trijicon night sights, Hogue forend, awesome!!!!! I added the light & rail.

LOL. Besides reliability, getting spare parts is a real consideration.

M1 also looks cool. So much out there...

Lets put the limit at $850

I have to say this If you have a Tactical 12 GA and a standard 12 Ga will the one that says Tactical kill you faster. Have hunted most of my life with a 12 Ga and have never put more than three rounds in for any type hunting. I always figured if I couldn't hit them with three I dam sure won't hit them with five

There are no (short) left handed Remington barrels being made anymore. JD is on the constant search for more. Mine is a new old stock Wingmaster he rechambered to accept 3" shells. I don't think he shortened mine, but he will shorten longer barrels with out vent ribs.

Also please excuse the dust while I remodel. Just sanded drywall mud in the back of the house and now there's a white dust over EVERYTHING.

Don't sweat the dust as your input has been helpful. I will consider a pump if its a lefty.

I just have a mossberg 500 with a folding stock and a flashlight, but I'm kinda liking those saigas. Having a removable box magazine instead of a tube is kind of nice. Plus the kalishnakov(however it's spelled) is the most reliable setup ever. And it's a semi auto. How many shells does one of those mags hold? like 8?
