I have a question about my mossberg 500

When I shoot alot of ammo in one trip with my shotgun (over 80 rounds), the cheek I rest on the stock is always bruised.

I was just wondering if I should just keep my cheek off of the stock, put something on it, or live with it........

If I put 80 rds of 12g through my 870 in one range trip, I would have more than just a sore cheek. For sure if its high brass, shooting low brass on the trap range I'll stop at 2 sets (50rds). You can get low recoil stocks, not sure if that's a help for the face bruising. If the shootie is a HD weapon learn to point shoot with it, that will fix the problem.

How tightly are you holding it to your shoulder? If you've got it in there good it shouldn't pop up into your face. I put about 100 rds through mine last weekend, and another 50 thru my dads 20guage, and had a bit of a sore shoulder but no issues with the face.

I think I fixed the problem Thanks..... My shoulder wont get hurt unless I'm shooting 3" magnum slugs because I have a limbsaver pad on there

My cousin thinks I'm a girl, but at least my shoulder ain't bruised

Well, duh, you are gonna be sore.

Never mind the cheek, watch out for the teeth. Enough to make me get a cheek pad put on.

I have a Mossy 500 also and that little thing don't hurt much. Some of my other guns generate recoil with magnum loads that makes me stagger about seeing stars. Then I need to sit down and rest a few minutes before attempting other activities like driving home.

I once shot off 60 rounds at the range one day... I tell you what.... I learned that 10 rounds on target is alot of fun!!! But the 60th round will miss because you are beaten down, gun weights 200 pounds and the ammo seems to get more kick harder with each shot. I'm tired.

I think there is a point in gun ownership that we have to go down to the range and bang off 50-100 rounds and try to find our way out through the cloud of choking smoke. Once is enough with rifles or shotguns.

Now handguns, 50 is nothing. I hate to find out what it will take to get sore.

Oh, cleaning only takes a few moments on 10 rounds. It takes way much more supplies and time to scrub out 60 rounds.

I shot 150 clays last weekend with my 870 12ga. I hold it tight, so I did have a little tenderness below my cheek bone. Recoil pad kept the shoulder from feeling same. I don't think what you are experiencing is unusual. If your buddies think you're a wuss, kick 'em in the nads --- they'll shut up <g>.
