Rule 1. Handle all weapons as if they are loaded. Nope!
Rule 2. Keep your finger off the trigger until you are pointed in on your target. uh... - no.
Rule 3. Never point the muzzle at anything you are not willing to destroy. Not sure on this one - he seemed willing to destroy his own foot.
Rule 4. Be sure of your target and what's behind it. Check.

Hitting a dog, cat, or a car is MUCH worse than a foot how?
Also, I realize that asking more questions about this now could be pretty touchy, but do you have any idea what kind of load the gun was loaded with? Was it just bird shot?

wow good reminder - maybe he thought it wasn't pointed at his foot and just between his legs, damn I can't rationalize it either way.
I could have been worse if he was cleaning it with a shell in the chamber someone could be dead now.

WHY do I cycle the pump/slide 3-4 times when clearing my shotgun/pistol/etc?
