Sight / Optics Recommendations?

What sights or optics would you recommend for use on a Mossberg 500 Persuader for HD use? Ghost ring? Red Dot? Other types? Any specific models for the Mossy 500?

EoTech.

Huge field of view for both eyes open, and it will handle the 12 gauge recoil for years to come, and reasonable price. Only draw back... Less battery life if you leave it on 24/7.

You mean like a Model 512? I see that recommended in various fourms for use on shotguns. As to reasonable price, I guess for optics it's reasonable if it doesn't cost much more than the gun. :-0

Any of them. The models/price varies by the battery options. I have one on my AR that runs on standard AA batteries. The battery life is poor, but in a SHTF situation, AA's will be around, while my exotic batteries may NOT.

With a shotgun, the weight is less of an issue, as is "rail space", since the optic will be it.

About $400-500 new. Cheaper if your forum-surf.

The Burris FastFire Series is another good option, for half the price. Less durable, but for Home Defense, fine.

Famous last words!! They said that about the 22LR round!

The Eotech does offer the best FOV. I had one on my Mossberg 930 SPX until a horrible case of “father-in-law needs to borrow that” broke out in my house and I haven’t seen it since.

I use and Eotech XPS 3-0 on my Mossberg 590 A-1 for one reason and that is I like the 60 MOA circle and the single center 1 MOA red dot in the center. Very fast to acquire targets. I also own the EXPS 3-2's (2 dots inside the 60 MOA ring) but in my opinion the single dot is is much less busy and a little faster for CQB purposes.

It's a shotgun. Why would you need sights? Especially at home defense range.

Do your homework!!!

A cylinder choke shotgun spreads its pattern 1 inch per yard.

At they typical length of a family room, 5-6 yards, your pattern is still very small. If you ain't aiming it, you ain't hittin' shit!

I would hope at 5to6 yds you could point and shoot and hit your target with a long gun.
