If you are not on a police tactical entry team or some other special unit, you have no need for a "tactical" choke - unless you want it just for looks. Tactical chokes are usually cylinder or larger: They have no restriction.

The Tactical choke is an extended choke that has serrations on the front and holes drilled all the way around. It is used with special frangible loads to blow the hinges off doors. The serrations bite into a wood door so the barrel doesn't move. The ports in the side are safety vents in case the frangible slug doesn't completely leave the choke before it start to disintegrate. It is also extended so if the choke blows apart, the barrel will still be good.

Frangible slugs are made from powdered metal compressed together. They behave like a solid, but when they impact something hard they disintegrate. They still pack a punch immediately after they hit the target, but the energy is quickly dissipated.

This is a Carlson's brand Tactical breecher choke for a Remington shotgun.
