I see these furniture with hidden drawers and things that you guys post and others but I never see them in a store in real life. Are they custom made ? Are they made just for hiding things or is it just a bonus on how they are made ?

All i did was take some measurements (the dimensions of the drawer and the size of your gun), go to home depot, buy a piece of wood and a few pieces of PVC. Then I cut the wood to the size of the drawer, sanded the edges, glued the PVC pieces to the bottom of each corner, and figured out a way to lift the new false bottom (in my case glued some dice to the floor so it blends in with some other junk in the drawer). Very easy, cheap, and discreet!

Both the stair and false bottom are good ideas.
You could also crate a false vent safe using the commercial model shown below.

However you can accomplish the same thing in the following manner.

1. Cut a vent size opening in the desired location of a wall. Make sure you are centered between the studs.

2. Frame it with 1x3 boards. If you place the vent about a foot off the floor, you can leave the bottom open which will give you more storage.

3. You can use the screws that came with the vent to secure it. However if you want something that is easier to get to, cut the heads off screws that hold the vent and glue them to the screw holes using epoxy. Epoxy 4 small magnets on the inside corners of the vent and epoxy 4 corresponding washers to the wall.

For added camouflage, you can spray paint a piece of cardboard flat black and place it over the vent slits on the inside.

Looks like I have a new project ahead of me! Been brain storming some ideas for a place outside the bedroom to stash a gun or two for HD since I rarely carry while in my house.

If you really want to hide something in your house, look at putting it in the ceiling somewhere. I never saw a ceiling get searched, and dogs can't fly. I've seen some creative stuff over the years, like drop panels in tray type ceilings, and flourescent light fixtures on hinges, etc.
