4" S&W 686 .357 mag with 129 gr Federal 38 spl +P hydra-shok JHP. I'm currently in an apt and would rather not "wake" the neighbor if I miss the first shot with the .357 mag. My 2 speed loaders in the top drawer of the nightstand have the .357 mag Remington 125 golden saber JHP if needed.

OP stated to keep long guns out of the discussion. However, when I am at home (all brick, no neighbors for >1/2mile), my "nightstand gun" is also a 12ga with 00 buck.

I guess I should qualify depending on the situation. Hopefully I'm not hijacking the thread.

If I am alone in my apt (I work out of state), I have the revolver on the nightstand. I have the lighting set up so that any BG will be silhouetted in the only bedroom doorway making a center mass shot straightforward at <10 meters.

If I am at home with the family and they are able to get behind cover in the safe room, I set up behind cover in front of them with the 12g and am able to easily cover the single bedroom entrance doorway (lights also preset).

Worse case scenario is if the BG is between me and one of the kids in their bedroom. Then I grab the .40 cal and have to be mobile. We do family drills to try to avoid this scenario.

At MP9werks - wow I'm blown away by your attitude.

It's not about screwing the suppressor on its already installed (a night stand gun is always good to go) - and being able to hear the bad guys after disposing of one is a huge plus point that or being able to hear my daughter communicate to me.

Read recoils interview on chris costa and see what he has as a night stand gun, if I had to guess your a fan boy more than a shooter so maybe you will listen to him.

Haha I just checked glockblock original post and he quotes costa too. For me it makes complete sense.

The best night stand handgun for me is one that I can easily hand to my wife as she goes to investigate what that noise was.

M&P 9c on the nightstand next to the State Farm phone number to report the losses if there are any. They are not going to touch my family or me, but they can have the rest.

I take my 40FS out of the safe each night and set it on my nightstand. Feel 100% protected.

My home defense setup is the very model of "escalation of force" - from pepper spray to suppressed AR15. My M&P40 with 20-round magazine is always close at hand

If I am to use a pistol it would be my M&P 9 Pro Series in 4.25 inch with a TLR-1 on it. My wife has her Walther PPQ in 9mm.
We both have Remington 870's as our primary HD guns.
